Default [REL] Accurate German Flags

Accurate German Flags v.1.01

Well you know someone had to do it...

This is a small mod to replace the fake default German flags with historically accurate flags. This includes the German Merchant flag, the Kriegsmarine flag, the Nazi banner in the U-boat pens and the flags on the deck of the Bismark.

Please no political or moral discussions, everyone is free to use this mod or not depending on how they feel.

I didn't make the german.dds and german_m.dds textures, I don't know who did originally and I think they've been around forever, I only made the flag.dds texture and modified the default NBB_Bismark skin. Thanks to Highbury and Ragtag for the reminder about that last one.

Hehe, thanks. As much as I understand Ubi's reason for removing them, I just always get these "Great Dictator" vibes from the cross flags

Did the game come with german.dds, german_m.dds and flag.dds files in the Textures folder? In SH3 the texture files overrode the files stored in the dats...which contained the swastikas. Thus returning the swastika was simply a matter of deleting those files from the Textures folder.

Just musing...

Yes JScones now that you mention it I remember that...

Yes those 3 dds files came with the game. Along with half the files from SH3 and SHIV :-) I swear if they removed all the useless crap from the two previous games, SHV would ship on a 650meg CD-ROM.

I tried just deleting them to see what would happen and you were right, the flags on the ships revert back to historically accurate but the large banner in the U-boat pen is just black. I guess that one isn't included in a old dat file somewhere since it's a new texture.

Brilliant stuff, thank you very much.

Could someone also tend to the "GERMANY.dds" file as it displays the current German eagle (post-war) instead of the WWII eagle? Not even sure if and where in the game it is displayed, just looked through the files and saw that it is not the correct one.

Yeah I saw it too but I haven't seen it used in game yet. If anyone spots that eagle anywhere let me know.

Maybe I'll do the medals but I'm not sure which file the game actually uses for them, there's like 3 or 4 texture files for medals left over from previous versions. And I haven't gotten far enough to find out because I've only actually played the game for about 30 minutes so far :-)

This germany.dds is a CT Emblem and it shows one version of "Weimarer Republik" eagle not post-war.
