Default missing convoys

What is with the Jan 1040 convoys...I set up intercept courses, even with
convoys that appear only 50 km away and cannot find them by sight or by sonar. I have even saved them when announced and reset to the save after using different intercept courses with no intercept course that would work.

Do these convoys sink right after being announced or do they do a 180 turn
and return to Halifax or wherever??

Hi Lcdr Welcome to Subsim are the those Convoys from the Campaign or just single mission convoys that you have written

1.if the Convoys are from the SH3 stock NYGM GWX LSH the radio reports
will be generic just for game immersion also in those Campaigns at each way point there could be a circle 50-250kms in diameter around those waypoints so when I Convoy enters the radius of that circle around a waypoint in mid Atlantic that same convoy will spawn anywhere within that Circle and carry on to the next waypoint

2. all Convoys and ships have to have way points if your Convoy in your written mission only has one way point or say five way points 2000mtrs long mission starts at 22:00 on 10th November 1940 the ships/Convoy sailing at 6knts will disappear 20-30 mins into that mission or if its a Campaign Convoy you have put in the Scripted SCR Leyer of the SH3 Mission editor if the Convoy starts just outside the Canadian Port of Halifax with 50 waypoints to the port of Liverpool give that convoy an entry date and exit date one month apart so it will get to Liverpool and not disappear halfway across the Atlantic
Convoys will disappear when it reaches last waypoint or when the Convoys exit date/time reached

3.When hunting for Convoys in the Campaign don't rely on your sonarman telling you ship/convoy contact do the sonar sweep yourself you can pick up convoys on your headset
30-38kms away

if you need anymore help just reply to this post regards blackswan40

Default Jan 1940 disappearing convoys

Blackswan40...thanks for the reply
I am just playing the original DVD with the v1.4b patch installed. I have no problem intercepting convoys except that during the month of January 1940, the convoys as reported by Bdu message and noted on the game map are apparently not there. I have had them pop up less than 50KM from my position but are not there at the intercept point either sighted visually or by
sonar sweep. I have even saved the game when they are initially reported and run different intercepts in case the convoys have changed course, but the
convoys are simply not there. In February 1940 the convoys are once again
there and able to be intercepted....Is this just a game glitch?

Hi Lcdr the SH3 Stock Campaign convoys are written in the random leyer those convoys spawn every 72-225hrs even if those waypoints stop 100-500kms from Halifax and that convoy disappears it will respawn 3-8 days later you can go into the SH3 Mission editor and enter your own convoys with longer waypoints and have all the ships spawn all of the time

if you have GWX3 installed you could try the steel sharks GWX Campaign all the convoys are in the scripted leyer and the ingame radio messages of convoy sightings are real the convoys are there in that grid at that time of the radio message being received the campaign SCR file is very large 15,000kbs plus
some convoys have 90 plus ships in them
theres two campaign downloads one is war start 1939-1943 and the last one is
may 1943 onwards
also GWX3 has more ship types escorts and merchants

info on the steel sharks campaign

SH3 Stock Campaign

LND 209kbs
RND 5915kbs
SCR 2652kbs
Messages eng 6kbs

if you would like help adding Convoys to your Stock install I can help you but stock SH3 has very few ships in its ship roster for all nations

Are you saying some of the convoy reports are completely fictional just for game play sake; a convoy doesn't even exist when the message comes through ?

If you are referring to the reports in the text box, and sometimes with a box and a tail on the NavMap (if your mod mix does that), then each Random Generated Group in the RND file, and each Group or Unit in the SCR file can have a time and percentage "set" for a broadcast notification of the group's/unit's existence after it "spawns" into SH3. Sort of like a "spy" is watching the harbor, or an airplane saw it, maybe another Uboat saw it. It does help with "atmosphere", making a person playing feel like they are part of the imaginary SH3 world. Depending upon when that "message" is set to trigger, it might be "fresh" data, and it might be quite "stale", or old. When it gives a direction of travel, that is an approximation of the direction of travel at the time of the report. If the group does a turn right after the report, oh well, you'll be off a good little bit if you're looking for it. Generally speaking, if it's not close, leave it be, else you'll waste a good bit of fuel, and crew patience (and the skipper's)... If instead you are looking for the convoys near a harbor, as blackswan40 mentions, they may well reach their "termination" point and literally disappear. Also, if you are in too close to where a group is supposed to spawn, it won't spawn, because you're in too close... (thank you, Mr. Obvious) One thing you can do with those reports is to "track" them, and by that, you are able to draw the "shipping traffic lanes"
