Default McEwan's "CHAMPION"

£1.83 at ASDA and a whacking 7.3%!

Having a change from the IPAs this week; this is a full-flavoured, smooth chestnut brown bitter.

I'm thinking it might be a good idea to make an index of what we've reviewed, including page and post number, so as to prevent repeats (after drinking this stuff sometimes I can't remember whether I've done it already). I'll update it each time someone reviews a new beer.

I can't put it at the start but I can add a link to it with my future posts.

The wife is currently at ASDA and has sent me a text asking if I fancy trying the
Guinness Golden Ale which she has spotted is on offer @ 4 four £6.

"Sure thing pet, bring em home"

Quote:
Named after its distinctive golden colour, GUINNESS GOLDEN ALE is brewed using GUINNESS yeast, Irish Barley, the finest hops, and a specially selected amber malt that gives the beer its rich golden hue. The subtle biscuit flavours from the malted barley perfectly compliment the crisp bitterness and delicate hop aroma, giving way to a refreshingly clean finish.

Index sounds good, send me a draught when you're happy with it if you like and I'll work something out.

Default Brewhouse Index of Ales (by name)

You can refer to this index before posting your beer, but fresh reviews are always welcome.
I have omitted spirits and other non-brewed and mixed or fermented drinks, except cider... although they may still be posted.
I have also omitted the brewer's name unless it forms part of the beer's name.

Picked this one up at the localTesco yesterday. A little under 4% but at 90p a bottle I have to give it a chance.

Enjoyed Guinness Wheat. It is a very good wheat. However, I prefer the German wheat. Some just buttery smooth.

Other than craft ales and the run of the mill lagers I also enjoy the odd night drinking ginger beer or cider if one catches my eye.

Such an event happened last night when I popped out to pick the wife up from work, she said she needed a few items from ASDA that her employer (M&S) hadn't in stock so, as per usual, I wandered off to the alcohol section whilst she was shopping in another aisle.

I'm currently paying between £11 and £13 for an eighteen can case of lager (prices vary from store to store on occasion) and was pleasantly surprised to see the same size case of Magners was on special at £9. It would have been rude of me to ignore the offer but I did get a mild ticking off from the wife when I caught up with her pushing a trolley almost fully laden with cases.

Enjoyed a couple of bottles of this with a steak last night....quite tangy and hoppy but overall not a bad drink.

Tried this one last night, more out of curiosity than anything else but it does exactly as it says on the label. The aroma and taste were definitely enhanced by the presence of banana.

One to try again.

Quote:
This dark golden coloured ale hugs the palate with great intensity. Its malty aroma is complemented by the gentle nose of Banana. Its flavour unfolds with a sensual sparkle and a smart crispness, which balances its aroma perfectly. Tropically fruity; its ripe banana flavour, emphasised by a hint of bitterness, comes from the addition of real fair trade bananas and finishes with an emphatic, steely dryness.

This is most probably the best IPA I have tasted

Went down very well whilst eating chilli co carne in the conservatory last night

Quote:
Lansdown has a bright gold colour and a spicy hop aroma with lemon and lime fruit and biscuit malt. Peppery hops, elderflower and lime fruit dominate the palate, balanced by honeyed malt. The finish is long and quenching with a fine balance of honeyed malt, peppery hops and tart fruit.
