Default VoiceAttack: full voice control with your sub!

Fellow captains,

I can highly recommend the program "VoiceAttack" (available through Steam).

With it, I am now able to *fully* control any sub in Cold Waters! (okay, apart from aiming the torpedoes which still requires mouse control).

Other than that, I am feeling like a real skipper, shouting orders like:
"Full left rudder!"
"10 degrees rise on the planes"
"Load Tube 1"
"Ahead 1/3rd"
"Prepare to fire tube 1"
"Designate target!"
"Raise the ESM mast!"

... like I said, everything!

It works like a boss, really. It is so amazing!

I am also using VoiceAttack, it's the only way I can figure my way around the clumsy maneuvering controls. How can we post/share our VoiceAttack profiles here? I am very curious how to use verbal commands on specific torpedo tubes, esp. when some boats have four tubes, some have six or more, and some have VLS.

One trick that I learned long ago with VoiceAttack is to set up a bunch of different verbal orders to trigger the same action. Simple things like "left full rudder" and "full left rudder" mean the same thing to a human helmsman, but VoiceAttack isn't that smart unless you make it so...

(Hello! I am Racer_D on the steam forum btw )

Admittedly I have been using 4-tube subs for now - I guess the simplest thing is to tell VoiceAttack at the start of a mission how many tubes you are using.
I need to have a further think about that.

I have been using Voice Attack for SH4 for about a year. Certainly the best way to play as a captain of a crew on any vessel.

I've never heard of this program, but it sounds awesome. I remember watching a YouTube video of Cold Waters and the player, don't recall if it was Mr.Jingles or Turkey, and he was giving voice commands and the ships crew would respond. At that time I didn't even have the crew voices working yet, so all of this was looking great.

One of you mentioned it's available on Steam? Do we have it here on our downloads? Thanks guys...

Never heard of Voice Attack before today, and it also works with Silent Hunter. Definitely gotta give that one a try someday!!

How about Dangerous Waters?? Think it will work there?

Voice Attack will work for just about any program that uses key presses. The voice recognition is already part of Windows OS. I use Voice Attack exclusively for Silent Hunter 4 and Elite Dangerous. I will use it for Cold Waters as soon as the navigation and depth controls get reworked.

The use of voice commands just adds to the immersion of having a crew. Nothing like giving a verbal command for periscope depth, having a crew member repeat the command, and then the ship diving to the desired depth.

I absolutely love Voice Attack for this game. It adds so much to the immersion.

I have a very basic profile I made when the game first came out but have been waiting for the helm stations and more hotkeys to finish it.

Would you be willing to share your profile once you had the new stuff Skyhigh?

Would love to take a look at how you did some of it.

To the rescue.

Ahead flank = ALL AHEAD FLANK

Ahead Full = ALL AHEAD FULL

Ahead one third = ALL AHEAD ONE-THIRD

Ahead standard = ALL AHEAD STANDARD

Ahead two thirds = ALL AHEAD TWO-THIRDS

all stop = ALL STOP

back emergency = ALL BACK EMERGENCY
dive 10 degrees down bubble (ETC) - The is always left to the Dive's discretion, unless the OOD wants a level deck during the depth change. For the game's purposes, these are as good as anything.

Dive dive dive = DIVE, SUBMERGE THE SHIP

Emergency Deep = EMERGENCY DEEP

emergency surface the ship = CHIEF OF THE WATCH, EMERGENCY SURFACE

Fire torpedo = SHOOT TUBE X

Flood control minus XX on the ballast - This doesn't work this way on a sub, so these are as good as anything else. It IS a good simulation of depth changes with level deck though.

Full dive on the planes - Left to the DIVE's discretion, so as good as anything.

Full Left Rudder - HELM, LEFT FULL RUDDER.

Full Right Rudder - HELM, RIGHT FULL RUDDER.

helm left rudder 10 degrees - As above, with degrees indicated. All of these usually are followed with Course orders, but again, this may not work with the game's setup.

load tube X - Good enough for the game here.

raise/lower the ESM mast - RAISE/LOWER THE ESM MAST.
lower the periscope - This is not ordered, as the OOD is the scope operator. However, for game purposes, RAISE NUMBER 2 SCOPE. (THere should be 2 on the ship, and the #2 is the most often used. You can easilly use #1 if that's how you want to do it.)

raise/lower the radar mast - Keep in mind that in reality, this never happens submerged. However, RAISE/LOWER THE RADAR MAST.

Noise maker - LAUNCH COUNTERMEASURES.

prepare to fire tube X - MAKE TUBE X READY IN AL RESPECTS.

rig for ultra quiet - CHIEF OF THE WATCH, RIG SHIP FOR ULTRA QUIET.

Rudder amidships - HELM, RUDDER AMIDSHIPS.

torpedo activate - WEPS, PRE-ENABLE THE WEAPON.

Anything I didn't list is a game-imposed thing, so what you use there is your own comfort level thing. Hope that helps you out.

Default Voiceattack profile ?

Hi

These sound great - would anyone be able to upload their profile (either to subsim or the Voiceattack forum - where there's a profile section).

Not sure of people have used variables for the toggle commands (so "raise periscope" doesn't lower it if it's raised already), but voiceattack can do this fairly easily

Thanks
Crhis

I use VA for every game I play. Best $8 I ever spent on gaming.
"Doesn`t really work for me. Way too slow and barely understands anything."

The trick with VA to get started is to train it. Not only the introductory MS training, but the advanced as well. Few people know you can train it multiple times and each time it gets smarter.
The better the microphone and the closer it is to your mouth and carefully adjusting the recorded volume so it is both high and not distorted is vital to success. You also have to use spoken discipline and not slur your words or get lazy.

Avoid similar sounding words for different commands. Using multiple words instead helps greatly.

Another trick is to use the "OTHER" button to program in ignore and listen commands. Sometimes VA needs to be told to pay attention to your voice because it can stop doing that occasionally. A forced "listen" command (I use the word "execute") to tell VA to pay attention wakes it up when you think it's not working. Sometimes you need to talk on the phone, use PtoP chat or play with your child. An ignore command solved all this and the same command can be assigned to your push to talk button. I also use OTHER to program responses to my commands so I know VA has heard and interpreted correctly. You can install third party voice packs so you can have voices of famous people or movie characters respond to you. There is no limit.

VA can also trigger scripts and lists of sequences so very complex operations can be performed including running and controlling external programs while you're gaming, internet searches, looking for the best commodity prices while flying from one EliteDangerous station to another.
There is no limit. If your computer can do it, VA can control it.

If you can get past these understandings VA will become the most valuable gaming program and it's not limited to games.

For me, I play MANY games, sometimes switching between several a week. Keeping all the cheat sheets, HOTAS mappings, hotkeys, file table references is just too much. Using VA, I use similar commands to perform like features in all my games reducing the brain exceeding RAM crashes on my 64 year old mainframe. For those of you who have clever VA profiles you'd like to share, VA has an export file feature which you can give to people to import into their VA, learn from what you have done and customize it to their own preferences.
