Default Air battle over Germany-Based on Red Storm Rising

Got an idea to a scenario-Based on Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising

In the start of the war-there's an air war on the border, in West Germany and in East Germany

My thoughts to this scenario

1. NATO
3-6 Airfields with fighters, bombers etc that was available in the beginning of the 80's

Their task
Protect some areas in Germany, the airfields, the bombers etc
And Bomb targets on the border and in East Germany and of course take down WP-fighters and their bombers

2. WP
6-8 Airfields
Same task here(they must protect areas in East Germany of course).

An air-to-air and air-to-ground war scenario, nothing more-Based on the book.

Some question

Question 1
How many NATO/military Airbases/airfield were there in Germany between 1980-1989 ? And where in Germany ?

Which Type of Aircraft did NATO have-Fighters, Bomber, mulitrole etc at that time ? And how many?

Type of SAM and AAA ?

Question 2
How many WP/Military airbases/airfield were there in East Germany ?
Same question as in number 1.

Mapuc,

The links below have Orders of Battle for Warsaw Pact and NATO forces in the 1988-89 time frame. They have decent data for airfield locations and units as they would be at the start of a campaign (pre-mobilization in most cases). Actual locations of the air bases would be more difficult, although it's probably not critical at the scale of CMANO. Many of them can be picked up from a scan of Google Earth/Maps (many are civilian or military airports still), including underground bunkers in some cases. I also have a reference book from the early 90's with coordinates on most of the major bases if you really needed it.

Warsaw Pact

NATO/WP

Locations of SAMs are a lot harder to come by. There are websites (don't have the links now) that depict the layout of Soviet and NATO theater SAM defenses during this time frame, but I've never seen smaller-scale, base-type SAM deployments anywhere. I suspect you would have to make some general assumptions about how existing total SAM assets would be divided out among the available bases.

Hope that helps,
Mike

Thank you Mike for posting these two very interesting links

To make a very long life of trying to create mission short

I can't create mission.

I have ideas and a lot of them-I post my ideas here, In case there are some brilliant scenario-builders out there, who don't know what they should create next, they can get some input from me.
