Really cool Bubblehead1980, that you got the radar running. We might have to liberally borrow from you!... - Have you tested to see if they can actually "see" your submarine with radar? Make their visual acuity next to nill and see if the radar detects you, and they attempt to avoid - or shoot!...

There are several version of the AI_TorpedoLauncher stuff, from Darkfish, jhapprich and pollyfiller (others??). I'm not sure if pollyfiller ever uploaded his version anywhere, but he had the launcher attached to submerged AI subs that shot at targets. s7rikeback is at this time attempting to attach them to the AI_IJN subs in FotRSU. We're expecting torpedoes to shoot, just not very accurately, since all of the launcher versions used a gun to do the shooting, and gun shots travel at a faster speed than torps can... therefore, the torpedo is actually shooting behind the target. I'm not sure it's worth much effort, unless a better aiming logic can be employed, but it'd still be cool.

Yes definitely the radar as I was well beyond visual range when he detected me and started zigging at 9 knots instead of traveling at 12 as I set them to do. If had spotted me, would have fired at me on deck gun as AI japanese sub does when spots player, never did fire, just started zigging and I dove to scope depth before visually spotted me, but did have me on his radar.

I followed the beam and found myself in a great set up for one of the attacks. I closed to 4,000 yards and kept my profile slim, with bow pointed at the radar signal. I could have probably got away with a night surface attack moonlight was a little bright so went for a scope attack.I was never spotted visually.

I am using my radar mod I uploaded, type 21 is set to surface only and type 13 is air only. I adjusted it so it's effectiveness vs subs is limited (as in real life) by adjusting it's minimum height, how the sub's profile to the beam is etc. Performance is pretty close to Japanese radar performance in real life, it's there, sometimes they detect, sometimes they dont . Can pull off attacks on convoys with radar equipped escorts, sometimes can't, they detect first. Thing is with subs, they are down on same level roughly as players sub, where as an escort and other ships are higher, sometimes they detect, sometimes they dont. I can get inside the screen undetected at times and even have traveled as part of he screen while sneaking in. My understanding is Japanese never had PPI screens but A scope type displays, so it was hard for them to tell. Closest I have been on a radar equipped escort undetected is 2900 yards, sure it was radar since it heavy fog and rain, I was trying to sneak in close and go for radar/sound shots on the merchants but was detected.

Batfish ambushed the japanese subs and if I recall, only one ever showed signs they knew Batfish was out there, others likely never detected Batfish on their radar.Their radars turned into homing beacons for Batfish.

I do believe, with a bit more testing, that CapnScurvy will have some news that will peak your interest in Radar against AI subs... a most interesting find... and with a very interesting potential work-around that is being tested. More later from the good Capn...

Not sure about the radar detection, but it might be possible, with some "twisting"...

Not confirmed, so don't get your hopes up too high.

Ah, itll be cool to see what comes about .However, I don't have a problem with sometimes being detected. When I created my IJN radar fix, its why I set the min height to 7, when it was set above that they never detected my sub, radar was completely useless. Keeps things interesting when they can detect player sometimes.

What kind of behavior do you get out of them when they do detect you? Avoidance, or ~ATTACK~!!! - ??

Avoidance when radar picks up, starts constant helming/zigging at 9-10 knots attacks with deck guns when visually spotted

Don't try to download it from the mediafire.com page for reasons mentioned earlier.

OK, that's the one I had previously downloaded - from MediaFire, but with "protection"... - they are very dependent upon "opponent's speed" and course. The surface vessels do a better job of it. Those images don't display in the thread itself, and I'd wondered what they looked like... thanks for that.
