Though did they also require you to create an account on their website for the game before you could actually use it and enter your credit card information into the store section of your account to access new features? No, they didn't. And that's why they failed. Miserably. Combined with the fact that their software didn't have an autodetection system for keygens. It's kind of like STEAM's VAC system for ROF.

I checked WWIAirCombat.com and got a link to the ROF blog. Last month, the total number of copies sold was announced to be over 45,000, with some 20,000 in Russia alone.

After watching on of the vids I'm asking myself where the little wind shield is that the Dr1 has? I can't see it in the cockpit view.
Is this an oversight by the devs?

The first DR.1s that were produced and delivered to front line units after the Fokker F.1 was removed did not have windscreens. Later, it became an optional attachment (there was a way that you could screw them on).

Here are some fresh Dreideckers at Jasta 26's aerodrome in Bavichove (note that most do not have windscreens):

In Russia, the price for this game is around 13 Euros. That and also the fact that the game was made by Russian-based dev team explains the number of sales. For the rest of the world the number of sales is not that impressive for a flight simulator.

What comes to cracking ROF being impossible I refer to claims of Titanic being unsinkable... It will be done and it's just a matter of time. Judging by SH's description above it'll be more difficult than your average copy-protection, but there's no such thing as impossible.

'Course the World War I market for flight sims is also a rather small collective niche. Especially when considering that the last great game of it to come out was Red Baron 2 in the latter half of the 1990s. I mean, one that had a lasting impression upon the community anyway.

Oh I listen, it's just that you don't understand. The thing that made other systems crackable was that they relied too much upon automatic, electronic validation methods. This one relies upon manual, electronic, and physical validation methods. While the electronic aspect can be cracked (as the torrents demonstrate), the manual aspect is much harder to access- especially when you consider their detection system (that also requires you to be online at all times to check for this kind of pirate activity). True, that specific part is not impossible to crack/avoid, but the physical part is. Unless you've got a valid CD key that an actual person (a Neoqb employee) can validate from a list of ones in circulation, an account on their website, a valid email address, and a valid credit card number, you're not getting in. Being able to get past one or two parts of the anti-piracy system here won't cut it, not by a longshot. And the complexity of the physical part of the process makes it impossible. If somebody got past it, then I can guarantee that they would be considered software geniuses.

To quote a few pirates on the matter (you can Google these quotes to confirm their authenticity):

Need crack to play without conection or register. Crack crak crak! Without crack no play in this game, or pay key!!!

The Dutchman at 2009-08-18 16:14 CET:
Another useless upload........

bigturd at 2009-08-18 16:45 CET:
Worthless without a crack. The game requires you to register online, and be online at all times. Don't waste your time or bandwidth downloading this.

Marklar666 at 2009-08-18 20:11 CET:
you have to activate box version in the same way as download one. sorry guys, you won't play this game for free.

Could this thread go back to the topic?
the crack talk has carried on long enoug and is leaning to go against SUBSIM's policy.

Thanks,
