Are you flying vintage aircraft or modern "fly by wire" aircraft?

I'm researching two different manufacturers: CHProducts http://www.chproducts.com/ and Saitek http://www.saitek.com/ . From what I've been able to learn from some other flight sim forums, it seems the CHProducts sticks, yokes, peddles, etc are the preferred units. The Saiteks are nice, but the CHP units are said to "bear up" under hard usage better...

As I'm flying more modern aircraft, I'm considering the CHProducts Pro Throttle and Fighterstick. Buying the pair will set me back about $300.00 but I'm interested in flying X-Plane aircraft so the programmability of these units is important.

Cheers!

Thx DeepIron

I have Saitek X52 flightstick and rudder pedals.

The stick for 3 yrs and pedals since they came out with no probs and heavy use.

I thought IIRC, CH Products was out of business at least in the flight controllers business.

Logitech is out of the question. :rotfl: Nooo Way.

I bought the CH Flightsim yoke, but I cannot recommend it, it is sitting in a box in my basement since 6 years or longer. The spring is very soft, and the nicking axis (push and pull) works either too sensitive, or is jerky due to material friction - even if using plenty of silicon spray.

thee is very heavy, metal-made, and I assume better gear available from different other manufacturers that even mimics the looks of various yokes of varous planes, but it is very expensive. Take the word "very" literally.

Better invest in a good HOTAS combo, which alos is far more flexible and allows oyu to use the one of the other component for binding keyboard commands to other types of games as well. I have the CH Fighterstick and ProThrottle, and use the full combo in SBP, the thottle in GTR-2 and ArmA as well. that money was better spent than for that damn yoke. Some FS-planes like the SF.260 or Airbusses are even flown by sticks, not yokes.

I fly only WW2 era simulators, IL2 Sturmovik, Battle of Britain and European Air War, and the combo I have found most satisfactory -after trying many, even the famous CH products- is this:

-Saitek Aviator Josytick: http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/av8r.htm

Well built, hard enough spring, throttle comfortable to use and many programable buttons. The central red switch is three position, so it multiplies by three the original 8 buttons on the back pannel, plus the weapons buttons in the stick.

-CH pedals: http://www.chproducts.com/retail/pedals.html

They liberate your joystick from that function and you really notice the difference of not having to twist the handle to yaw with the rudder. Plus, since throttle and stick feel already realistic, you get the full inmersion as only rudders were in an unnatural position before you start using them with your feet, as in real aircraft.

Alternatively, the Saitek pedals are also available for similar price, and seem to be good.

I consider this set up superior to a simple Joystick/throttle combo, as IMHO having the throttle separated for the left hand is not as inmersive and critical for good control as having pedals. My combo also isn't very expensive.

I'm also considering purchasing now a CH Yoke: http://www.chproducts.com/retail/yokes.html, also to be used with the pedals, as it is perfect for bombers in IL2, the P3 in Dangerous Waters, and even some civilian aircraft if I get interested in MS Flight Simulator.

Game wise: IL2 1946 heavily modded, Janes WWII Fighters, Aces Hi and FSX with Acell.

I have a Saitek X52 with pedals for stick planes.

Would like a yoke for yoke planes.

i'm leaning to Saitek as I've had good luck with X52, the compadibility with same pedals and Saitek is 3mi's away.

But, I'm game for a good reasonably priced yoke and pedal set.

Is Saitek and CH Products the only options ?
