Well, I gave SHIII a try, and... nope. I need the graphics of SH5, personally.

mkiii, please come back to us!

Does anyone know what tools mkiii was using? I'm tempted to give it a shot myself. Not that I'd have any idea where to start.

Yes, I'm really that desperate.

You could try Silent Hunter IV with Operation Monsun Mod. This gives you a German campaign in the Atlantic, with Type II, Type VII, Type IX and even Type XXI/TypeXXIII submarines.

I think he wants to know the tools that the OP was using to put the 3D models into SH5 with, not where they got the models from.

Yeah, that's about right. Although I will admit that I don't know where the best version of the Type IX model(s) can be found. SH4's model would be an option, but I had rather hoped to use these:

The artist apparently made them just for SH5, but they're not freely downloadable. Would need to get permission to use them.

I also did recently look into using the Goblin editor and other graphical modding tools, and... yeah, I'm more than a bit intimidated. Not at all sure if this is within my realm of ability, but I'd venture to guess a resounding 'no' is in order. Help would be appreciated, but I honestly just don't think I can do it.

I know right? Holy beans, I need this now. Minelaying at the entrance to Liverpool harbour in a calm moonlit sea.

But honestly, I'm more excited about just having a properly-sized fleet boat. I don't even care about the extended range all that much; it's just that the size affords it plenty of freedom that the Typ VII just wouldn't provide. More torpedoes, more spacious living quarters, higher top speed, bigger deck gun, more deck guns, an extra torpedo tube... ach ja, bitteschön.

And, I mean, the increased range is also nice. One of my favorite parts of SH5 was operating out of Dakar, so the range would definitely come in handy there. Ahh, sinking unescorted convoys off the coast of Africa... and it felt like 1 in every 3 kills I made was with the deck gun. Submariner's paradise, jawohl meine Herr'n!

...aaaand we still don't have the IX. If only mere imagination could conjure the code and graphical models necessary for such an addition.

Sad Gethy is sad.

Well one should make a totally new interior, AI crew and different looks, add different speech and questions and commands etcetera.
That being said, it would be epic if the code to this game one day was released. But hardcoded stuff in the game cannot be changed sadly. So I will keep enjoying the Wolves of Steel for now...

Same. One day, perhaps. Until then, TWoS is pretty much the best thing ever.

Woah, when did the op stop working on the type 9? I had read a bit of the few pages and then skipped forward. And read somthing about someone else starting it.

Yeah, so apparently they just disappeared. No word on the project since Spring of this year. I've been pondering what it would take to get the project running again, but I don't think I have the skills. And now I'm largely hoping that the exporter will solve the problem, even though I really have no idea how any of that is supposed to work.

Perhaps with Groves buying the exporter, the creation of the subs in the difficult manner ( having to bypass the original hard code ) .
This work has become redundant ..
I am hoping that that project will lead to all the fruits of Eden that we so crave .. a new sub with new interior layout and all 40+ crew members modeled .
... a guy can hope ..
