Well I've just reinstalled IL-2 after a long break, and while it does have a wart or two, it's also the only combat sim where one can fly such AC as the game's namesake. The AI f.ex. does leave a lot to be desired, true, but for a ground-pounder like myself there just aren't any alternatives if I want to fly the Sturmovik or the Peshka. Therefore it's IL-2 or nothing for me I'm afraid...
