Default Old DVD copy of SH3

Hi All,

I've been lurking long enough. Thought it was time to make an account!

Anyway, my visits here were as a result of attempting to get SH3 (2005 DVD) working on Win 10. I tried most of the procedures such as running in various compatibility modes. All I get is a grey Windows 'Protection System' error box that says This Application can only be launched with a release version of Windows 95...blah, blah...

It seems some people have no problem with Win 10?

I was wondering if I should repurchase SH3 from Steam, maybe the old DVD version is stuffed up with a bunch of antique UBI-wear preventing a Win 10 install?

Any Ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

I brought it again through steam ages back as it is stripped of the Starforce protection that causes issues. This can be circumvented but it's easier just to download it on steam.

I have no issues running the steam version I just had to set it for win 7 compatibility mode in Win 10 pro.

I have the newer Encore release disc, and run it with no problems at all. I have an extreme dislike for Steam, but that's just me.

Thanks for the input.

I went ahead and grabbed a Steam SH3 version.

It seems to run albeit crushed into a little letterboxed window.

I will have to figure out all this modding stuff now.

Thank you for the warm welcoming!

And thank you Fifi for the Ahnenerbe recommendation. That is up and running and all seems full screen and great.

Wow, it's like a different game entirely!

Let me know if there are any other mods you think are the cat's pajamas.

I will dig around in my wallet, blow the flies away and see if I can find a donation for the cause here. I can't imagine how long it would take to resurrect these old games if it wasn't for a dedicated site like this pointing the way. Sorry, it will be modest ...hard times all around...

There are 2 others mods to have with GWX that i couldn’t skip:
- Thomsen sound mod
- MEP V6 with it MEP V6 sensors for GWX (20km environment mod)

If you want SH5 sub in your SH3, there is the U-Boat compilation 1&2 also.
And to finish, you can move in the sub almost like SH5 with FM New Interior + full open hatch mod (don’t remember exactly the name of this last though)

Not to say the H.sie patch + Stiebler patch and SH3 Commander are must have too!

But there is an order to respect to activate them so they work correctly.
If you want i can post my mod list order wich is working very fine here

What Fifi is describing you can see here although this is the previous Mep v5 version you can see just how good Wolfpacks setup is.
If you want to skip the preliminaries start at 9 minutes.
