Keymapper is pretty good to. I use it in SH4. I believe either utility will work for either game, but I've been to lazy to really test it.

Try here for Keymapper:

Thank you very much!

Is there a short cut key for adjusting your dive planes? I'm using a UK keyboard.

Default Observation scope and targeting Parascope?

Why would you need two scopes to begin with? I don't see any difference in range...

The attack scope had a smaller head that poked up above the surface and was more difficult to spot. You give up light gathering ability though. Used for daylight submerged attacks.

The observation scope had a much bigger head and could gather more light. Of course with the bigger head sticking up above the surface, it could raise a bigger wake, making it easier to spot.

I think magnification settings were the same, but not sure off hand.

Oh yeah...and Welcome Aboard!

Playing on a laptop: Beware some of the F1 to F12 keys have multi functions and won't act the same as a normal Desktop Comp keypad. Most of the F keys on a laptop contain other icons F2 & F3 control screen brightness F6, F7 & F8 have arrows and F9 to F12 control plug ins & sound.

I suppose laptops were not really intended for gaming.but my 4 core HP A8 with 8GB memory and Readeon 7600 graphics can cope with most new generation games, it's just that some of the keys don't do the things you need them to do.

The (blue) function key (Fn) next to your left CTRL works as a toggle between the standard F keys and their (blue) special functions for laptops.

Edit: well, I guess "toggle" is not the correct term. Press "Fn" + "F5" to get the special function noted on F5.
If the Fn key stays locked you'll unlock it with the "Num" key - or with "Fn" + "Num" - or with "Ctrl" + "Shift" + "Num" - or with some other cryptic key combination commonly to be found in your laptop manual.

My Laptop fn key is coloured Black as are all the keys, but maybe different manufacturers have different choices for keypad colours. Mine is a HP A8 running Windows 8 I will try out your suggestion and see if it makes any difference when playing SH3

Cheers

Brilliant thread. Especially, Enter to set TC to 0 and Space for deck gun target marking. Thanks to everyone who contributed. Having your actual plotted course in front of the Navigator, right clicking to go to the actual station and opening tube doors from the weapons position just blew my mind.

No clue. Since I try to make it realistic, I'll head to home waters and bury my dead there. A fitting sendoff.
