Keep up the good work

The ingame-date that you see on the picture in post #4
is read from the savegame-data.

The user can then even alter that date for his report, if necessary.
I am calling Windoze-API for that "calendar"-object.

WORKS!

Icon14 UPDATE: S3OADM

After testing one month without a single bug or crash I take pride in announcing that the work on S3OADM can be considered complete.Some minor tweaks here and there, but it works fine! It will now be handed out to a handful guys to take the next step.

What does S3OADM do?
It addresses Canovaro's Doenitz Elite Flotilla - [S3O] - Operation Spinnennetz. All documentation and also a change-log there.

Icon14 LON/LAT-Tool completed!

Coming back to the issue of getting valid results from the data that is recorded by SH3,
I can now tell you folks that the LON/LAT-Tool that I had announced IS NOW COMPLETE!

This is how it looks:

It reads the LON/LAT-values from SH3, converts these to LON/LAT in degrees and
then brings up the Kriegsmarine-PQ(4-grid as used in |DEF|) of that location.

It also reads the WARDATE from the .mis-file, because that is needed for our
archive available (step-by-step) on our map of Doenitz Elite Flotilla - [S3O] - Operation Spinnennetz

At the same time it renames the mission-files selected to match our new format for
[S3A] ~ MiSSiON-ARCHiVE ~ Reenacted U-Boot MiSSiONS ~ SpecOps ~

May I ask how you did the conversion?

cool urgs... yet another fullquote...

Areo, dear friend!
Yes, this is how I did it:
I read the LON/LAT-values from the SH3-file, then did the calculations that LGN proposed.
In fact I found the same formula in our old flotilla, see quote below!

The rest is lookup-tables where I had help with by members of TBT.

So yes, we can finally do it

PointsNb=12
Pt0=-1750881.94,4974581.33,-2.77
Pt1=-1770910.00,4950004.00,0.00
Pt2=-1770910.00,4950004.00,0.00
Pt3=-2225510.00,3843325.25,0.00
Pt4=-2254910.00,1348825.13,0.00
Pt5=-2175360.00,1348822.13,0.00
Pt6=-2175340.00,1321822.13,0.00
Pt7=-2255030.00,1321782.13,0.00
Pt8=-2255000.00,1294892.13,0.00
Pt9=-2175545.00,1294858.63,0.00
Pt10=-2175540.00,1268575.13,0.00
Pt11=-2254990.00,1268575.13,0.00

That embolded Pt0 is where my location was reported to the game at my last save. (I've boldened it for visibility sake)

Now, all you have to do is divide each of those numbers by 120,000 (it's the games constant) i.e.

The Longitude is first:

-1750881.94 / 120000 = -14.5907 (.5907 x 60 = 35.4') The minus sign indicates West Long and South Lat.

4974581.33 /120000 = 41.4548 (.4548 x 60 = 27.3)

Put it all together: 41° 27.3'N, 14° 35.4'W

This is my last known position at my last save. So, whenever you do a save during a game the data will be stored for your enjoyment.

btw: there are 12 waypoints in my game to get to my patrol area and do a search pattern at the end. Thats why so many waypoints. If you're really hard core, try it without waypoints, like real navigators and try to stay on course...it's a killer, believe me.

I was eluding to all the above back on page 13, post #193.
Quote:
Just wanted to briefly mention this...One of my real life hobbies, since retirement, is Celestial Navigation. A carry over from when I worked for a living. Several of us have been using it with SH3. You can too.

You'll need two stand-alone apps/programs:
Python and Stellarium (both freeware)

The Python program is written to enter the SH3 file in "My Documents" and extract your current geo coords as the game see them and updates the Stellarium program for date/time, correct Lat and Long of your boats position.

You, as a player, can then enter Stellarium and obtain instantaneous celestial ephemeris Azimuth and Altitude of every celestial body for any date your game is on. You can later do a sight reduction and precisely chart your position just like real navigators. Caveat: It's very time consuming and a bit tedious for some. Being a navigator is not for everyone; but, everyone can do it.

More info can be obtained by searching the archives for Celestial Navigation.

-...-

It's a new Enigma Day...so let's get after it!

Cheers,
One final note on the quote: Before retirement, Celestial Navigation was an obsession, since retirement, just a hobby.

Oh, and btw, that Pt0 indicates that I'm running free now, off the drawn waypoint course line on the chart in the game chasing a convoy without the aid of a waypoint. I have to keep slapping the helmsman to keep him on course....what a drifter :\

Remember: BOSS is double SOB spelled backwards.

Cheers,

Default = NEW MODULE! =

A new sub-module has been completed over the weekend: Quick Personnel File Reporter!

It lets you select your PERSONNEL FILE (created by S3C)
and sends it along with only two questions to our |DEF|-server.

It also reads your rank, medals, etc etc from that file because that's how we calculate our Point-Table.

I have today put it to the first betatest and will keep you updated

bullhorn

By order of BdU, effective today the following will take effect:

The use of our new FLOTILLA-TOOLS is mandatory for DEF-members! Our directives have been updated.

After several weeks of testing, I can proudly inform you that the following tools have been found working fine and a number of incoming reports show that they are easy enough to be used. With the help of my friends I will of course continue to develop, QPFR for instance will be updated...

The modules "QPFR" and "QMPR" are going to be integrated into our upcoming client S3Q 4.0.0.0.

EVERYONE who plays SP in DEF now finally update to the latest version!!! Old versions do no longer function and produce invalid reports!

IMPORTANT: Delete all previous versions! These cannot be used and the reports will be invalid if you try!

Thanks to Kiwi - we have updated it again!
Now extracts the hull integrity not only from ENG, but also GER-report!! Oh yes, Kiwi and I have once again updated QPFR, so it now reads the GERMAN medal-descriptions as well. We further improve that, because 3 or 4 medals are yet missing.

FOR THE LOVE OF THE ALMIGHTY GOD PLEASE EVERYONE UPDATE AND NO LONGER USE ANY OLD VERSION NOW!

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
  1. Report as before, just as described in our main-thread under "How to do proper reporting".
  2. But ADDITIONALLY, and that takes less than 2 minutes, you use our new tiny code-modules: QPFR for SP, QMPR for MP.
  3. Allow this tool through your firewall and let it run - many users forget to allow it through Avast, AVG, Windows Defender and all that - always the same though it is so easy...
That's all.
=YOU= get a message saying that your stuff has been submitted.
=I= see your file on the server, if it is valid.

Default [S3Q] - Silent Hunter III - Quite....... ##### Addon to S3Q TEC Thread please merge!

Folks,

The Kriegsmarine had Uboot Kapitans report their fuel reserve in cubic meters or cbm and not in percentages. I have posted below a conversion chart based on the Uboot type with percentage of fuel in reserve and what the reserve amount is in cbm.

These are rough figures based on the typical amount of fuel taken on board by each Uboot in metric tons and based on mean factor figure of 1.158 to convert tons to cubic meters. Fuel weights varied depending on the fuel supply available at the time so these are not exact figures but close enough for our usage.

Please feel free to use this chart for added immersion value when reporting fuel reserve to BdU.

Good Hunting.
