Default Does deactivating "Realistic Sensors" make the Radar/Sonar upgrades useless?

Hi,

I want to play SH4 U-Boat missions on low realism settings. But I was wondering: Its fun to upgrade the radar and hydrophone for your submarine, but only if a better system really upgrades the range of your sensors...

...If I have deactivated "Realistic Sensors", does upgrading your radar improve anything at all? Or has even the most basic Radar such a huge range with "Realistic Sensors" deactivated, that upgrading it makes no difference?

I know the rotating sensors are an improvement either way, but Im interested in the range.

Thanks in advance
