Default SH3 Downloading from internet

Hey all, have got the Steam version and its fine, but despite a fresh re-installation the GWX3 is insisting that its been modified. Tried and tried but no joy.

Someone in these forums said better to pay 10 bucks and download from Amazon with v1.4 and no starforce or DRM. Brilliant methinks, but Amazon.co.uk site does not do download version and Amazon.com ( United States ) will not allow download to other countries.

Anyone know where its possible to purchase a full download of game elsewhere ?

I know I can physically buy the DVD but wanted to get game in a hurry so can have the weekend to give GWX3 a go.

Thanks in advance you modest lot.

I'd strongly suggest you bite the bullet and purchase the game on disc.

I bought it online years ago and d/l the ISO off a website and burnt my own install CD with it. That is the quickest and best way. Plus I think it was available with 1.4b already on it.

I'm not holding my breath on Fulham. If Sunderland and Cardiff would co-operate...

Looks like Leicester City and Burnley for sure. (They play each other tomorow). I'm not sure about QPR. Derby County and Wigan needs to start playing good football.

We'll see.

QPR fan here....( from Ireland)....at this point they don't deserve to go up, don't know what the hell is going on there, Harry has done his best with this lot, looks like they just aren't playing for him....shudda been automatic promotion for us, but now I will be surprised if we get out of the playoffs

This may seem silly, but I'll throw it out anyway.

Are you changing the install path when you launch the GWX installer? It does not autodetect where SH3 is installed (it looks for a default folder that is nowhere near where Steam installs things). So you have to hit 'change directory' or 'browse' or whatever is on there and point the installer to where Steam installed SH3 (I believe Steam defaults at Program Files (X86)/Steam/Steam Apps/Common/Silent Hunter 3, from memory so may not be exactly right.).

I think that would constitute to piracy in some form. And that is a definate no-no on this forum.

So there is no way to get the steam version to run properly unless it is vanilla version? Are there no steam compatible mods? I am insterested in OLC an ACM in particular.

I've considered buying a disk version, but from what I've read I understand that Win8 might be a problem. Buying another version of the game I can live with, having to buy another PC and running it with XP just so that I can play one game I can not.

First, this thread, if not actually a necro, is a bit long in the tooth. Might catch more response on a new thread.

Second, the Steam version will work with any SH3 mods AFAIK. But it requires a different procedure than the publisher's version, which is what everybody else sells. Desertstriker has a couple of tutorials describing what you have to do.
