Default Some gameplay for you

I was surprised when I heard you Subsim-Experts aren't in the Beta yet, so I decided to record some basic Gameplay with English commentary to give you at least something to base your opinion on:

So far, I haven't received any warning not to upload such stuff. Let me know if you want to see more and I'll see if I can record some more before they sue the crap out of me.

I'm just kidding, so far the BB guys have been very kind people.

The video description:

"I recently got invited to the SHO Beta. I don't remember singing any NDA, there are already some videos out there and the Beta forums are readable for everyone too, so I thought I might as well record some basic Gameplay to give you an idea what to expect. Please keep in mind that this is a BETA and that the game might undergo some changes till the final release.

The beginning got cut off unfortunately, I'm saying "Hello Subsimmers" there.

The cursor you see in this video isn't the game cursor, appearantly my recording software replaced it.

I'm German and English isn't my mother tongue, so please excuse the accent and mistakes I might have made in the commentary.

To apply for the Beta yourself, go to silenthunteronline.com."

And people ask what the point is of buying things on disc anymore.

A great video overview of the game, thank you very much for taking the time & trouble to make this.

While I am fully aware that this is still in Beta, that does not change the fact that the underlying framework of this is pretty disheartening, I mean, it seems that a lot has been removed and it offers very limited functionality.

I have to agree, its like a lower version of SH5 with no 3D views. Whats the point?

Don't know why he get the title "Chief" in his nametag.
Why do gameplay videos always need to be done by clueless, unsuspecting and uninformed users?

Because he has made a few more posts here in subsim than your Engineer status.

That's a bit of a generalization, isn't it? But if it is true, they probably understand the hardship of not knowing how things work, and felt like needing to share what they know.

Pretty harsh on the guy aren't you? Did you watch the whole video?
You might want to remember that he's only been playing it for 2 days. Also remember that he took the time and effort out of his real life and comprised and uploaded a gameplay video for us not fortunate enough to be in the beta.
You might also want to remember that next time you are critical of someone or something, you should use a hell of a lot more tact.

Would love to hear your corrections for the appearantly clueless, unsuspecting and uninformed statements I made so I could correct them in the description/future videos.

Edit:

No need for any praise just because I recorded it. If he thinks the video was a waste of time, that's alright to say.

@LemonA: Or is it the general "Don't know yet... Could be... Haven't seen yet..." foundation that you didn't like? If so, sorry that the video wasn't what you were looking for. I thought it might be interesting to share what I know after two days (roughly 6-8 hours play time combined) since imho the first few days are crucial when it comes to the question: Will I keep playing this or not? If I don't know some things after these two days, this might give you an idea of how well the game transports information at this point (But they've already announced that they'll redo the ingame tutorials).

I realized that while I emphazise the differences between this and my old SH3 experience (never played SH4 or SH5) I didn't really say if I like the game so far or not.

Personally, I usually was too impatient to leave the harbor from the dock in SH3 so I often skipped that - therefore I don't miss this in SHO.

I like the option to jump to a convoy if I want to get into action quickly while when playing SH3 even with accelerated time I know I'll have to spend a lot of time to see any enemy ships. On the other hand, I don't find it appealing that this way the strategic map isn't much more than a menu to pick your perfectly described mission from. Right now, I miss the uncertainty when approaching a convoy and the random contacts that sailing around gave me. Then again, there were some convoys now where the description said they'd be escorted but they weren't - so maybe there is at least some uncertainty left in the mission descriptions.

Resupplying the boat is a bit tedious the way it works now, hope they'll improve this.

After recording that Singleplayer video I tried playing in a Wolfpack. It seemed a bit unstable at this point (two crashes), but I think that could definitely be fun once I leave these early campaign seas and encounter some better protected convoys.

I must admit after watching the video by Kaleun Cook that i wouldn't enjoy Silent Hunter Online.
I know i know, beta is beta, but, let's face it, once released(in whatever state that will be) it will still be arcadey, simplistic and it seems 'dumbed-down' for certainly the more hard-core sub simmers out there. I don't consider myself 'hard-core' but even so, it looks like a lot of the bells and whistles were cut from this.
Will be interesting to see what makes it live, upon release.I would imagine also they are trying to appeal to a broader range of players with the 'limits' on this game in relation to gfx and whatnot. Older PC's could run it, it seems. Not sure on specs required.
Thanks again Kaleun Cook, i'd be more than happy to watch more of your vids
PS: a little humour was even present (for me anyway) with the attack periscope controls disappearing
