Default Flight Simmers report in...

I've noticed a few comments on these SH4 forums about IL2 and I'm wondering how many SH4 community members are or have been Flight Simmers as well:

I used to play lots of flightsims. Including IL-2 - online as part of D13-th squad. Not these days, though its getting tempting to join some friends for online Lock On.

I'm not very good.

MSFS 9 (aka 2004) mostly because there are loads of Golden Age and WWI add-ons not tweaked for GenX.
Also, HOP (Heroes of the Pacific). Have tried PF but prefer HOP, little less real, but a little more interesting.
I've run several MSFS over the years, 95, 98, 2000.
Subsimming often seems slow at times......:hmm:

Started seriously with EAW, played that for years, then got B17 II, played that & EAW until IL2 Sturmovik was released, bought it and been playing since.

I started from the beginning of il-2 days and flew for over 3 years on the D.E.Y. squad (Dead Eyes). Had a lot of fun and a great bunch of guys, they still play daily on 2 of the best server sights for il-2. I really loved it but just started to loose interest after years of playing, then i moved to online Lock-on and that was a blast as well, but, it is porked on a lot of levels concerning f-15 amrams and other things that i decided i may pick it up when BlackShark comes out sometime this year. If you have any questions on either il-2 or lockon just ask. I saw that il-2 has out the 1945 series, is this all disks in one now, otherwise you had to download a bunch of disks and patches, i would be lost now after all this time.

I cut my teeth on Flight Sims. Any one else here remember Sid Meyer's (yes, the Civilization Sid Meyer...) flight sim Pacific Ace?. Have played about every flight sim since to some degree. My first sub sim was Silent Service for the Atari 800. I had to buy an Atari drive to play it as the ATR8000 kit I had at the time would not work with the copy protection. Ah the original Silent Service, Railroad Tycoon and Pirates. Back when Computer games had more steak than sizzle

It started with B17, too. Then it went a long way. Currently IL2/FB and Falcon 4.0/Allied Force are my favs. If you don't narrow for flying in atmosphere, you could add the X-Wing Series to my current favs.

Your list is lacking the father of modern combat flight sims, Falcon 4

I've been "simming" both F4 and IL2 since they were published. Today's F4 is quite far from the original, published in 1998(?). Extensive modding has been possible due to a leaked source code, and hence they have been able to touch issues like the graphics engine, something SH3&4 modders can currently only dream about.

My HD houses currently:
Falcon 4 Allied Force
Open Falcon
IL-2 1946

Jane's WW2 Fighters
Fighter Squadron: Screamin Demons over Europe- Did lots of work on the flight models and some damage modelling on the community mods
CFS2
IL2/Pacific Fighters/Il2 1946
Battle of Britain II: Wings of Victory

One's I still play occasionally- Il2 1946, BOB2

Why WWII sims- cuz they ruined aircraft when they took the propellers off 'em

Well if you ask me, the kings out there are:

Falcon 4.0
European Air War
Red Baron 2

Says a little something about how I view the ideal simulation. No I'm not talking about the bugs on release

Of course, there are many other nominees ...

I'm a pilot in real life, and as part of my 'studies' i've flown just about every sim since AOTP (that's Aces of the Pacific).

Currently IL2:1946, Wings over Vietnam (carrier ops at Yankee station ), occasionally Microsoft FS9 to get ready for a real life checkflight :rotfl: .
