My only objection to OFF is that is currently limited to mid-late war. With RB3D and the Western Front mod I can fly a Vickers Gunbus in 1915 and with some of the other mods it looks very good.

Oh yeah. I like the Eastern Front mod, since it is the only mod/game where you can fly austrian airplanes...

I must add my applause to this mod - or perhaps I should refer to it as a new game ?

This is one of those conversions where it's worth buying the original game to play the mod ( call me biassed, but I like to think Pacific Aces was another example).

The use of the Adaggio music sets the tone straight away and the sound generally creates wonderful immersion.

This is a long overlooked era that's always welcome on my desktop.

Red Baron (Dynamix developed) was the best ever WWI flight sim imho. The prospect of building a career and flying alongside Von Richtofen was thrilling enough. Too bad the missions were repetetive.

I wish they'd get someone to make a World War I air sim with the IL-2 Sturmovik engine.

EDIT: I mean someone OFFICIAL.

A new challenger appears!

http://simhq.com/_air8/air_266a.html

I bought it for a bit of a distraction, and ended up with a bit of an addiction. Far from complete, but already functional and with modding, promises to be a lot more fun with time. I'll personally recommend it.

Mmmmmmmmmm.... this sneaked up under the parapet. Where did this come from ? No hype, no advance demos, no eternally delayed release dates . Is this the gaming industry we're talking about ?

Interesting approach. Apparently the Game Studio builds a solid game, with minimal artwork assets, and leaves the full development to the moddong community. It describes it as a simulation-lite, which means it's based firmly in reality but designed for game fun at the expence of hard core realism.

I couldn't put it down.
