Default Upgrading PC

Hello I am having thoughts of upgrading my pc
I already have gtx 750 2gb. But what does Silent Hunter series need the most CPU, RAM, Hard drives?

Does having more ram improve loading times of SH 3 ? What about then near convoys I noticed drastic performance issues near convoys or land. So having more ram will it improve and what about the types of RAM Does it make diffrences for this game is ram DDR2 or DDR3

My current specs
AMD Athlon 7850 2.8ghz
4gb ram DDR2
gtx 750 2gb

Hi mate, so here is my rig

Mobo: Ggabyte X99- Gaming 5P
CPU: Intel i7 6850 @4.03 GHz 6 cores 12 threads
RAM: Kingston Fury Black (4x8GB) DDR4 2666MHz Quad Channel
GPU: EVGA GTX 1080Ti FTW3 11264 MB GDDR5X
OS: Win7 64 bit Ultimate installed on Intel SSD 730 series 240GB
SH3: Installed on Samsung SSD 850 EVO M.2 500GB

This is kind of the bare essentials, ok that being said, it still takes anywhere from 10 - 20 minutes to load a game save. My experience is if you have an extensive mod list your load times can be big !!

My mod list I hear you ask.......................

Generic Mod Enabler - v2.6.0.157
[F:\Subsims\Hsie\MODS]

GWX - Merged Campaign
GWX - Alternative Flotillas
GWX 3 Wilhemshafen,St Naz,Schluese and xtra ships V7

Ai German U-Boats Collection (Ahnenerbe) Fixed
GWX3.0 All_Weather_Guns
Shortcuts for German U-Boats Compilation Mod
Bordinstrumente_patch_2.2_Ahnenerbe
Optional O2-Gauges v2 (for V16B1)
WB's Deck Gun Range
SH5 - Nelson class
Sub Bouyancy
Hunt_I_to_III_mod
Southampton_Fiji_mod
Additional Depth Charges v1.0 (GWX3)
Searchlights_Removed
S3H-H.sie-Patch-V16B1
EnvSimAct_10
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I also run the 4GB patch, and SH3 is launched through SH3Commander via SH3F.

As you can see, there is no diffinitive answer to shorter load times, I might add I have also tried RAID setups, these did not help either.

So that is the best I can offer, I hope it helps, if not, it may help you decide where and where not to spend your hard earned

Best regards.

RAM amount does not make any difference for SH3.
SSD Performance & High clocked CPU decreases loading times. Also an optimized campaign layer, maybe splitted into different regions.

So in order to get better performance I should get better cpu?
And if ram doesint influences anything why do we need to use 4gb patch?

Because stock SH3 only can use maximum 1,8Gb of RAM and with the exceedance of this amount SH3 will crash! With 4GB patch the maximum RAM usage of SH3 is about 3,7GB.

Good question!

I also would recommend to have 8GB for WAC5.0 when it will be released.

Maybe because the operating system also will take RAM.
For example... OS will take about 4GB and SH3.exe will take about 3,5GB then 7,5GB of 8GB RAM is in use.
If you only have 4GB Windows will swap out the RAM to the slow hard drive and things may stutter.

Hi Guys
Answering the question regarding LSH3-2015 is IMO down to the file size of this mega mod.
An SSD will make the biggest difference to your loading time.
Mine is currently around 4 minutes loading to the command room..
Investing on one for your C: drive will speed up not only your game but also your boot up time and any other programs that are on the drive.

Humm.. So again..
Ifs its down to the file size of the mega mod, why again LSH does require 8 giga ram especially if all the difference is about having a SSD ? ^^
