Default The New One

Ahoy fellow Captains,
how lucky I am to have found this site. As a total newbie to silent Hunter (3) and any simulation except for Operation Flashpoint, my had is full of questions and in the last three days - with a few hours of sleep - I was trying to figure out how to simulate this sub stuff.

Have a nice day all of you

Edit: first question, hehe, is how to download for example the sh3 resuloution fix? I get a message that I am not allowed to download at all.
Maybe it has to do something with the Activation Code I recieved via Email? I don't know what to do with it anyway...

Welcome aboard Bugsy

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=229368 will help you to learn how to manually target ships and fellow Subsim member Aktung also had originally posted this targeting geometry illustration from wilkepedia,

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torpedo_Data_Computer

TheBerbster is also a font of knowledge in this area as well. The Silent Hunter series has the benefit of scaling how realistic and challenging it is to play, thus, you can have fun playing the simulation whille still learning it's intricacies. Once again, welcome aboard and enjoy your sims. Welcome aboard as well fld.

Thanx a lot for all the informations, especially to Wallace.
Right now I try to fiddle out how to get the distance of another ship without landmarks or the stadiometer - and without map updates of course.
Just telling this to let you know in wich direction my ambition goes.

Of course I like support a community I am a member of. I prefer to be an active member with modding and answers in the forum since sending money costs a lot from germany - as far as I know.
For example, and not for showing off, feel free to look up "bugsbunny4president" (with a "n" instead of the "b") in Skyrim Nexus. Again this is only to show in which direction my ambition goes.

Hello Bugsy. I read your last post and thought the links below may help you in what you are looking for.

http://www.wikihow.com/Calculate-the...to-the-Horizon

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=229368

This link above involves a discussion by fellow subsim members maillemaker and TheBerbster on target motion anaysis and I think you may find it useful.

Further, TheBerbster also posted an in depth analysis on how to properly perform an attack in the post and link below. The link includes a video which is also useful. The mast height is important here in setting up your attack. He is using Silent Hunter 5 as a basis, however, the targeting applies to the SH series and any other Sim for that matter. The people who put the SH series and other sims wanted the sims to be as realistic as possible. You can always scale back the realism factor while you learn as well.

I hope this helps you Bugsy. It just takes some practice. It gives you an idea of how difficult it was for submarine commanders to plot an attack. If facing inclement weather, it became even harder.

Enjoy your Sims.

Thanks again, and after downloading a few files I am very impressed by the highest quality of the mods. Everything works fine , even when installed by a bilge rat. Aswell the tone and maintenance of this site is very much appreciated.

Thank you for the invitation, fitzcarraldo. But I have no account on facebook, so that is why you won't meet me there, mate.
