so what do you think of the color pictures of IJN subs ? if you use google translate you can almost read the pages in japanese then you see a sign "read more" under each subs' photo, click and get access to more picture like the sunrise Sen Toku.

Good pictures, I am very impressed!

Currently I am reading "The Japanese Submarine force and World War II" by Carl Boyd & Akihiko Yoshida, and it only got a couple b/w pictures. It's rare to see color photographs from WWII, compared to tons of b/w images.

very good book indeed, about the pictures seen here I believe they were colorized using really recent techniques, but they still look better than BW ones !

Any pictures of japanese submarines you have, you can post, there are so few...

I'm afraid I have... none.

All I could do is searching the web, let's see what I can find.

BTW am watching your progress on IJN/SH4 stuff, thing it'd be a good challenge to play the other side for a change.

Japanese Type D ("Koryu") Midget Submarine

Outside and interior images - only some in color

http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/s...ss/mdg-d-2.htm

http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/s...ss/mdg-d-5.htm

Miscellaneous IJN ships most b/w as far as I have checked

http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/s...n/jap-name.htm

And here's something special - colour palettes or plates or whatsitcalled;

http://www.cbrnp.com/RNP/Flower/REVIEWS/SandS_chips.htm

Could be useful for paints.
