Snarf,

If you do a re-install again may I offer a suggestion? Think about installing to a location other than Program Files or Program Files (x86).

Instead, make a folder off your C:\ or D:\ drive and call it 'My Programs' or 'Games_2'.... to avoid issues with Win 7, Vista, and even Win 8.

If you do, your screenshots should be easy to find in your Silent Hunter root folder where sh4.exe is located.

One thing, the library system used in operating systems like Win 7 for example may be trying to put all your photo's together...... that gets confusing. The OS is filing them in your My Pictures when in reality they existed in the game folder.

Try a search for "SH4Img*.bmp"
....... and that should locate all of your SH4 screenshots if you can't find them in the Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific folder where sh4.exe is.

Of all the operating systems since DOS, I am a big fan of Win 7.

Happy Hunting!

My installation is C:\SH4

The installation then creates it's own SH4 Folder which is:

C:\Documents\My Documents\SH4\data\cfg\

In the cfg Folder are all your "Saved Games" and "Game Play Settings"

Mods are easy to get to C:\SH4\Mods.

unfortunately it's not a matter of finding them, I'm pretty well able to find anything on the computer IF it exists, the images just flat out do not exist. I may try the reinstall in a new location and see if that works
BTW, my laptop (with this issue) is Vista 64bit, my tower (which I can find my oddly located screenies) is Win 7 64bit

It sounds like your OS is blocking the game from saving in the normal location. You might try checking the folder properties of the folder you have SH4 in. I often had problems with Vista in that regard (though not with SH4).

Do you mean this one

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom//downloads.php?do=file&id=942

For Webster's mods go to 'Downloads' tab, and select 'Webster' from the list on the lower left side.

Then you will see his 'Download' tab.

Default Question

Hello everyone.
I was wondering if anyone had a mod where music and news files were created that I can download for my game, because I'm tired of no music and news from the era. That's the one downside to the game, and I have to play music cds and some of the music doesn't match up to the time period in my when I move along in it. Thanks fro your help.

Go to the 'Downloads' tab

You can use sound files from SH3-4-5 they are all compatible.

Look at Post #30 and it will show you how to install music files properly.

Default Greetings, and a question...

I attempted this in what I thought was the correct forum, but as a bilge Rat ended up in an SH3 forum. Some of you may be there, too.

Anyways, thought I would ask here since you all are in SH4.

I want to go into GAMEPLAY SETTINGS and change to "High", Realism 73. Then uncheck Manuel Targeting System, Realism 58. Apply changes.

Then I want to run an American Career with these settings. But when I do I discover that the GAMEPLAY SETTINGS are changed based on the following Difficulty settings:
Easy --------> Low
Normal ------> Medium
Hard --------> High
Very Hard ---> Realistic
Is there a way to play a Career with the Hard setting and not have to worry about Manuel Targeting System until later?

Thank-you

Post note: I was just promoted to Nub.

Career settings, always a source of confusion for new players because it isn't explained well. In your office in port, there is a radio on the bookshelves on the left of the screen. If you can't see it, move the cursor over and the screen will scroll over and you'll be able to see it. Click on it, and it'll open the career options dialogue. Have fun.

Default Periscope lookout

While i am submerged at periscope depth with raised periscope, will the crew inform me about any visual contacts when i am not in the periscope station for example when i am in navigation map or in crew management?

That's a good question, you could see and report back... lol

Although it seems like it should be farther, at approx 5 1/2 - 6+ miles on the surface I get notified of a "Visual Sighting" which is especially useful for picket craft like Sampans. I'm not sure if it is Stock behavior or an edit I made.

Happy Hunting!
