Default New Player - Learning Base Game vs Modded Game

I'm a new player. I just picked up SH3 on Steam. I've done some reading and would like to install one of the Mod packages. I was thinking about WAC. I have a updated PC with a wide screen monitor.

So my question for a new player who wants to learn the game from scratch what are the pros - cons of learning using a modded version versus the stock version? If I installed WAC would the basic mechanics of the game be the same as the base game?

Sorry if this is dumb noob question. Thanks

Learning is not the issue. Mods add a sense of realism, visual effects, or added functionality. Learning the game requires time.

Because nearly every megamod adds more traffic, just look out what you prefer and learn the game with megamod installed. More ships means more learning exercises. Hide fur destroyers or sinking merchants. Exercise is exercise. With mods you will have more - so just go for one of the great mods:
GWX, WAC, LSH2015, NYGM and so on. Choose what you like and enjoy a great game.
