Icon7 Returning to SH3

Hello All:
Played this game a lot when it was released years ago. Got distracted by other computer games and life. Have come back to SH3 and man, this is great. The Mods are blowing me away. I may need some help from time to time but I thank everyone for all of your generous information.

Me too. My downloaded version stopped working about a year ago for an unknown reason. I purchased a dvd via Amazon recently and it works just fine. I wasn't ready to join a flotilla at the time and apologize for the comment I made at the time regarding the offer to join.
This I have learned, regarding SH3:
Patience is a virtue. Like life, just enjoy the ride, the rocking of the waves and the different weather conditions.
I play stock. I have not figured out how to mod for GWX. I mod the fatigue files. My Bosun makes the watch schedule. I don't bother with the annoying exclamation marks.
I add Mp3 music files to the gramophone. WW2 songs.
For historical value, I surface every day about Noon for a position report. I actually don't make the radio report because all I'll get from BdU is: "get aggressive!"
Because of the fatigue mod I've made, the crew remains in place for the entire patrol, except for battle stations or when the boat dives or surfaces.
SH3 is a learning experience. Eventually, I'd like to become good at manual targeting. For now, it's just easier to hit that big red button and let my navigator do all the work. It is challenging to mark the progression of targets, via sound lines, and make a line with the ruler connecting the marks to determine the course of enemy vessels. Make the "T" at a reasonable distance from the enemy's course, wait, like a deer hunter in his blind, then take the shot at the right time.
I've made attacks in heavy fog in the past, yet, it is very difficult.
You make the shot without actually seeing the enemy vessel.
That's the challenge of playing SH3. This old dog learning new tricks.
Good hunting!

Default Patching SH3.exe with h.sie's V16B1 patch

Hey Gentlemen:

I've got a little problem. I'm setting up NYGM Tonnage War with all of the different parts. I'm trying to patch my SH3.exe with the H.sie v1.6B1 patch. I'm using an original copy of SH3.exe but every time I try to install the patch, it tells me it can't find an original SH3.exe file. Both are in the same folder. I used the 4GB patch on my SH3.exe file before attempting H.sie's patch. Is that the reason the patch is failing to work? Should I start with an SH3.exe file that does not have the 4GB patch. Before I saved my vanilla copy of SH3 I patched it with the 4GB patch. Trying to save some work.

Thanks,
TorpedomanDan

Hi TD
Run your SH3.exe as an administrator..
What is your game path?

Default Sh3.exe problem

Hi:
Thanks for the response. My game pathway is D:\SH3\NYGM. I stay away from using the C:\ drive. I really think that the 4GB patch has corrupted my sh3.exe file. So, I'm just going to create a new vanilla SH3 without the 4GB patch and see what happens. I'll keep you posted if I still have problems. Thanks again.

Hi TD
You will definitely need the 4gb patch for any modded game.

Default 4GB patch

Thanks Peter,

Will remember to add the 4GB patch before I start modding again!
