Default AI engaging "neutral" vessels

Has anyone got the AI to do it? I have had difficulty getting the AI to attack "neutral" vessels even if I set Target vessel to a "neutral" ship. I usually have to assign that "neutral" a side in order for it to be attacked. This is fine if it is a civilian vessel but if it is a warship I then have to muck about with ROE and alliances if I don't want that neutral vessel to start firing back.

Neutral warships ought to be expected to fire back. There is not a nation on the planet that doesn't allow their military to open fire in self defense. That's a given.

The problem is getting AI to attack units that have been given Neutral as their side.

I want a side to start attacking civilian shipping without having to muck about with scripts changing sides and ROE.

Well, the Neutral side has a unique function in the NavalSimEngine, whereas the other Side 0-9 or whatever are all treated the same.

So your best bet is to simply use neutral for all the genuine neutrals and use a unique side for each independant vessel that you want to be attacked.

The reason you need to use a unique side for each independant platform is because otherwise all ships on the same side share the link (of course this is not true for ships on the neutral side).

You can then control when the ships attack the designated target using the set ROE trigger for the two sides.

Cheers,
David
