I'll just get a little practice with the BF109G2, which I've not really used up 'til now, and then I'll sign up and treat you all to a display of absolute ineptitude . I may even demonstrate my favourite phrase - "My bloody joystick's pissing about again. No, wait...... I've lost a wing"

Cheers, andy

I get a similar feeling around flak for some reason! Although it tends to be "Hay, who stole my engine!?" or "Where did all my beautiful fuel go?" leading to "Hay.... this beach looks like a good vacation spot!" or even the dreaded "I'm going to be getting some swimming lessons!"

Heh, reminds me of the first mission in the JG77 campaign we're flying:

After chasing a Spit around for quite a while(they're pretty slick thanks to the AI Mod) I finally managed to down him, so I relaxed a little and started climbing a couple of hundred meters away from a group of enemy ships. Flak has been very light so far, so I'm not overly worried.

Suddenly I hear a loud *BONK*

Thinking I'm being jumped I try to break hard, and look behind at the same time. All I see is my whole right wing, rapidly drawing away in a cloud of smoke and debris

And me, in the Subsim Battle of France, I jump a Stuka in my Hurri, give him a three-four second burst, he goes flamethrower so I break up and over, and then WHAM I'm spiralling away to the left missing a wing. At first I felt disgraced, sure that I was shot down by a Stuka. Then I watched Hunters video of the Battle of France and saw that what had actually happened was that the Stuka had exploded, and the force of the explosion ripped my wing off Bad, but not as bad as being shot down by a Stuka

Ah, a similar (but not quite as deadly) thing happened to me back in Belgium as well, I was bombing an airbase in my trusty old Blenheim when I heard a few bangs, thinking that no major damage was caused I headed back to base, after a while I started to think the plane might be acting a little strange, and then Oberon confirmed that my rudder was shot clean off

"Bandits, oh, no, that's a 109..."
"What's this? Oh, another 109..."
"Aaah dammit, another 109!!"
"Gaaah, ANOTHER 109!!"
"NOOOOOOOOooooooooo!!"
"Freiiiisler, Hunters whining again!"
"Freiiiisler, Schroeders not listening to me!"

Bilbo,

Got it and set it all in motion.
And don;t worry about the black smoke, its a relative thing, you could always turn the brightness up on your monitor REALLY high so that thick black smoke looks like just a bit of grey steam... although I am afraid we cant do anything about the flaming engine part!
