I didn't do so bad: the crossed-rifles badge denotes "Marksman" with Lee-Enfield .303 No.4 rifle

I 'd wager, looking at the photo(two stripes)...it was a corporeal experience! especially in the prone position! I love rifles with a lot of wood; my own incl.: my .30 cal Carbine and my two-band Enfield:I've managed over the years to collect all the accoutrements incl. rare bayonets and regulation cleaning gear for re-enacting. I can only claim to be proficient with either one. For my age I hold up well against my brigade mates in the live ammo shoots. Cleaning is a chore though.

Here's another beret. I took this photo of my autistic son Lawrence today in the costume we put together for his school production next week; he's learned the poem "In Flanders Fields" by heart and has to recite it.

Salute to the lad. I'm sure he'll do well.

He looks great in uniform. Is he excited about the production ? As fireftr18 already said, I'm sure he will do well and the production will be a success as well.

Salute to Lawrence for being involved in the school production.

You and Moira are not a little bit proud of Lawrence, are you ?

Thanks, guys. He's well-rehearsed, uniform all packed and off to school half an hour since. He seems to have no self-consciousness, so he'll look the audience right in the eye... I just hope he speaks up clearly.

Yes... he has been known to impress us, but (happily) much of the time he is doing normal naughty stuff such as telling us he only had salad for his school dinner, just so he can get another hot meal in the evening.

Edit: Pleased to report he did brilliantly... word-perfect, with his head up and looking ahead. It was a great evening... the show was a WW2 nostalgia romp with singalongs, a Winston Churchill impersonator (one of my son's classmates) and an infectiously authentic atmosphere.

Glad to hear. I bet you're a proud papa, as well, you should be.

Happy to hear Lawrence and the other kids did so well. I'm sure there were a lot of proud parents in the audience. The hard work in rehearsals really paid off.

I'm glad it was a great night for you, Moira, Lawrence and the other kids and parents.

How did the Winston Churchill impersonator do ?

Thanks, you two... Churchill was great... not allowed to smoke his cigar, though (no-smokingg regs )

I did hear one or two gasps and sighs in the audience as Lawrence intoned that very poignant poem... which brought a tear to my eye

Icon12 Grin and beret

^ well then give him another stripe for his uniform so he doesn't wonder how he measures up to 'ol' daddy' ...which can be traumatic for a young lad! Since U mention Churchill:
Quote:
Churchill doted on his mother and idolised his father and as a child was constantly seeking their attention and praise (not often forthcoming).
The lad looks better in his beret than either of us!
The next time he says "only a salad" tell him it's 'just the thing to keep him 'slim and trim' in his kit'' ...he'll have to come up with a new plan of culinary attack!
