Default Regarding Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit & Nvidia cards

Hello all,

It is I hellas1, revisiting everyone from unterseeland.

I have problems:
I'm running Win 7/64 bit w/Nvida 260 GTX card w/latest drivers.

My audio codecs are updated as well.

I am able to get to the loading screen of SH3 and then my system crashes.

I want to play the game I payed for, 4 yrs. old or not.

Incidentally, I am using a No DVD crack but I DID pay for SH3 btw.

help me...
hellas1....oh my...something I forgot

I'm using Win7 64bit Prof and SH3 is running perfect ! I also use the SH3_XPSP2_Res_Fix_for_1.4b on a widescreen with a resolution of 2520x1600.

You need the DirectX 9 Codecs from the original installation and you have to install as administrator!

My Mods :

OLC's Modified Searchlight Beams for GWX3
GWX_3.0G_Water_Stream_for_Uboats_V21
OLC 'Gold' MkIIc
OLC_Gold_MkIId_Update
WBNN Mission Orders Lite

Good hunting,

It's important to notice the difference between Win-7-Users with the old CD-Version of SH3 and Win-7-Users with a newer Steam-Version. Hence, the different "Damn, it won't work" and "Dunno what you mean, works fine here" posts.

The first won't work because the copyright protection program (Starforce) won't run on Win-7. There's a statement somewhere on the Starforce-site stating: "Sorry, it wont work, ask the game developer for a patch." As long as there is no such patch, the only solution seems to be a crack or to buy the game again.

Windows 7 64 bits on Nvidia GTX275...
Old SH3 original disk: Can not initialize 3d engine
Pirate version with crack for 1.4: Can not initialize 3d engine
Changed my screen resolution to 1024x768: no more errors, works great.

For the "Cannot initialize 3D engine" error, it's very simple. The game cannot start at refresh rate of 59 MHz. For instance, change your resolution to whatever you want and your refresh rate to 70 or 75 MHz and the game will start in Windows 7 32 or 64 without any problem.

Default Possible fix?

I, too, had problems as I posted earlier after loading Windows 7 64Bit Home. One day I decided to try installing SHIII one more time and to my surprise, it loaded with no problem. I then realized that I had not changed the default destination. I then loaded GWX 3.0 (did not need to load 1.4, seems that it was included in the disc that was part of the SHII/SHIII pack which I purchased for about $10.00 via Amazon) and it worked great. Uninstalled and tried to install on different destination and it wouldn't load, but it did when loading to default destination. I don't know why, but am very glad that I finally got it to load (as well as getting it to work flawlessly)Damn the torpedos, full steam ahead

I really don't know if there is a ''correct'' procedure. It seems quite obscured for the time being and for the most part everyone tries to make the game work on his own. I, for example, run Win7 x64. I have two hards disks installed. I installed SH3, GWX3 and SH3Cmdr on the one where the OS isn't installed. Thats all. Though it works fine i consider myself lucky i haven't faced a serious problem. I only face a minor sound issue which probably has to do with hardware acceleration but i found a way to reduce its effect.

I found some info here: http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-c...2-59hz-30.html

About the 59Mhz problem. There is a kind of solution but so far it isn't working for me. The game loads but I get a blank screen instead of the loading screen and then I hear the music but get no video.

Still trying to find a way of making this work. Any ideas are welcome.

Bad news, guys: NVIDIA knows about this 59Hz problem and they say that it is up to Microsoft to fix it.
Yes, and Microsoft says that this is a feature - not a bug.

Check out the Nvidia Release Notes for Driver Vesion 196.21

(See Windows 7 Limitations under page 17)

and Microsoft's KB2006076.

Interestingly when I Alt+Tab out of the game and back again I can see the menu but there is an ugly rectangular splodge in the middle of it and I have no cursor at all in game. Cursor is working when I Alt+Tab out to another screen.

I'm not trying to encourage anyone to buy a game again that they already purchased before. That said, if you really want a version of SH3 that loads and plays without hiccups on Windows 7, get the download version from Direct2Download.

I misplaced my disk a few years back and bought the game again online. The D2D version loads onto Windows 7 and plays just fine. The D2D version seems to be missing whatever stuff is conflicting with Windows 7.

No problems at all.
