Default Wolves Of Steel Questions

Hi everyone
I have the WoS mod installed, and although the realistic targeting system is great, I want to use an automatic one that "does the work for me".

Also, I have the "plot hydrophone/radar/visual contacts on map" checked in both options menus, and still it doesn't plot them.

Is it possible to do either of these things? I installed this mod a couple of years ago, and can't find the manual!

Thanks

Hi CB
There are 2 things you can do to only have Auto Targeting only.

Open the Options File Editor Viewer and go to the XO TDC Tab and check if the manual targeting is enforced patch is red or blue.
If enabled blue you need to disable it.
If you are going to make more than one change to the OFEV then disable your mods first.

If this is the only change you are going to make then you have this option below or you can still disable your mods if you think this will be easier.

Go to
data\scripts menu\open the last py file.
Scroll down until you see ######## XO TDC Dialog box (SH3/4/5 modes) ######
Go down to this option
#[OPTION]
#CATEGORY=XO TDC
#TYPE=0
#DESCRIPTION=Manual targeting enforced (if True then the option to 'Turn TDC Off' is disabled and not visible)
#VALUES=
#DEFAULT=False
#; is manual targeting enforced? If True then the option to 'Turn TDC Off' is disabled and not visible
#; change below to either True or False
XOTDCManualTargetingEnforced=True < change True to False > exit and save.

In the bunker before you make your game save go to options and game play settings and untick manual targeting option.
Apply the change and make a Game Save.
Continue Campaign will load your new game save.

You do not need either of those for Auto TDC.
Auto TDC does that for you.
Lock the target with the spacebar.
Unlock the target with the spacebar.
Fire.
That is basically what Auto TDC is, point and shoot.
This tutorial will give you an idea of what I mean.
Start at picture 10.

Hi,

I know this is a silly question, but HOW can I just fire my torps in a straight line without using the TDC at all? When I tried shooting at a ship which was stopped and directly in front of me, the torps still made a huge curve as they were influenced by my TDC settings.

Another point is - is there a "standard TDC solution" you can use when attacking in a perfect situation? I mean, let´s say single merchant, probably doing 8 knots, bearing 340 degree... you know what I mean.

Cheers, AS

If you are using Auto TDC
Lock the target.
Fire.

This depends if you are using Auto TDC or Manual TDC.
Auto TDC would be relatively easy in theory.
Lock the target.
Unlock the target.
Fire.

Manual TDC will require more information.
The true bearing to the target.
Range to target.
Torpedo speed.

Peter

Really enjoying this mod. My question is

When I receive a radio report of a convoy, it is not added to the map (at least I don't see it). Is there a way to enable it?

Edit: Ah I see its a feature of the mod. I need to learn to plot them myself

Actually it is worth learning to do it yourself because after a little practice its really easy.

All I do is

1: Position myself so the ship will pass me at a distance between 800 m - 4000 m at 90 degrees AOB.

2: Ahead slow or (preferably) all stop

3: Identify the ship and enter the mast height

4: Open the stop watch. When the ship is nearing 90 degrees AOB then record the length of time the ship takes to travel its length. Do this a few times if you have time, to get an accurate consensus. Then divide the length of the ship by the time taken and multiply by 1.94. The result is the speed of the ship.

5: Use the Stadimeter to determine the distance.

Using these steps I can regularly hit targets up to 4000 meters away. Rough weather does make step 4 a little tricky if you are at periscope depth, but you just need a little more patience.
