Default USS Pampanito (SS-383)

hey there folkes, as promised here are some shots that I took from the uss pampanito!
enjoy

P.S. sorry for my embarrassing t-shirt: har:

Here I am next to the conning tower.

a nice wide shot of this beast!

on the stern side of the sub

then we got down through a modified torpedo loading hatch into the aft torps room:

and into the second electric engines room wich stores engine #3 and #4

----------------------------------------

going into the crew berthing (aft battery room)

The radio room

and in the contol room (the red lights were a vey nice touch i have to say!)

Here i'm pretending to go up the ladder to the cooning tower, wich was sadly closed

the officer's county

my bed (captain's resting place)

lastly a pretty wide shot of the forward torpedo room, the last compartment of the boat

on the outside:
the 20mm twin AA gun

and a side shot at the back of the bridge

sooo that's it for my virtual tour hope you enjoyed
credit for some of the pictures go to David Barth on the bathworks.com site.
I used them to fill in some gaps left by my pc screwing up all my files, what a joy!

have a nice day people!

Really nice! I'll bet the old crew would be disappointed in how their boat is kept, especially on the outside. Looking a bit ragged there.

yes i agree, i was quite disappointed by the fact that the ship is covered with bird escrements, the paint if you happen to touch the ballast tanks while nobody looks, falls apart with no effort at all, and the plans to repaint the damn thing this year blew up..

Thanks for the pictures.

As for the state of the boat, well this is the same city that spurned the USS Missouri as an attraction. You wonder if the ship should be shifted to someplace where there is more civic interest.

I was p/o'd about losing the USS IOWA seen on it's tow to Southern CA after twentytwo years in the Suisun Ghost Fleet. I'm in the shots somewhere on Ft. Point's upper parapet. What a loss to the SF Maritime Museum! I had dashed to the fort after visiting the USS Pampanito and Jerimiah O'Brien Liberty ship moored next one another upon hearing of the transit in progress. No mean feat in the city on a weekend!: what ya gotta do to witness history-the last time a Battleship passes under the Golden Gate Bridge.

Ohh I Can assure you that the Iowa is a beauty docked in los angeles, it is kept really really well, and also literally every room is visitable, from the main turrets to the bridge, the gynormous engine room and you can walk around the whole Thing.
Including the fact that you can turn the helm (?) Not sure about that translation of the steering Wheel of the boat ahahah.
Any way I infortunately reccomend the Iowa way more than the pampanito..
Have a good day everyone

One year ago I went to San Francisco and I visited the Panpanito and yes, it's realy in bad shape. I wonder how it is under the waterline
However it was great, because it was the fist time that I went in a submarine
If you want I will post my images of the submarine and sorry for my bad english

Please post away; As I've said in other posts, there is heavy corrosion at the water line; and, as cloadmcally alluded, the conning tower is closed for corrosion related safety reasons- The old hero needs a lotta love...in the dry dock. It's been there before:
