Any Way To Change Sub Name

Does any one know how to change a sub name in SH-4 ver 1.4 or ver 1.5 during a campaign? I found a mod that will allow you to change the capt's name but not for the submarine.

From my notes: (Be sure to use a text editor like Notepad)

Quick and dirty:
In \Documents\SH4\data\cfg\SaveGames\ find the save game you wish to edit and open "ActiveUserPlayerUnits.upc" with Notepad.

NameDisplayable=Gato
UnitName=USS Drum <<<--- re-name the sub here, USS Peto (SS-265) or whatever.
UpgradeClass=

There are four upc files you need to edit for an exsisting career:

Open them with Notepad.

Find your boats name, then change it to what you want.

Careertrack.upc

Another is ActiveUserPlayerUnits.upc

Inside a folder named UPCInitial you'll find files with the same names, change these too.

The easiest way to do it is before you start a career - alter the Data\Roster\American\Submarine\SSGato.cfg file so that it only has one unit entry. The file should look like this:

Name=USS Wahoo (SS-238)

That will give you the USS Wahoo every time you choose a Gato in a career.

Thanks a lot for your help on how to rename a sub aanker and Berry.
I knew there had to be a way but I just couldn't figure it out, but then I never thought of going into the active userplayerunits.upc either. Been playing this game off and on ever since Sub Hunter 2 came out and I'm still learning interesting things about the game when you go into the guts of it and mess with things.
