Default Newb question about Career mode

I just installed the game and I have a basic question. I know that you get to choose a class of submarine when starting a career mode but do you get to play different submarine classes as you progress in the career mode? Basically if I start with an s-class sub, am I stuck with it for the rest of the career mode? Thanks!

Upgrades will usually be forthcoming, so long as you score high enough. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to tell what your score truly is... The progression of the upgrades depends upon the "UpgradeClass" setting for the subs. In Stock, starting in Manila with an S18 (UpgradeClass=0), you would probably go to anything from a Salmon to a Gar (all UpgradeClass=1) depending upon date, location & availability, then to a Gato (2), then a Balao (3)... and as Aktungbby says: "Welcome to SubSim

Welcome aboard to Subsim evildrtran!

Don't be afraid to ask questions here. We older captains love to show off our vast wealth of knowledge to the new captains. We won't make fun of you too much.

By the way, you need to earn a spot on here. I think polishing the propellers will do.

welcome dr. evil.

Yes, with two conditions.
1. you need to have successful patrols. success is measured by how many objectives you achieve in any one patrol and if you have been decorated for your sinkings/objectives achieved. there are more complex explanations but it is probably best if you start here.
2. if your boat is retired, you may be offered a new boat, IF you have been moderately successful as a skipper.

so, prime directive(s): sink enemy ships, achieve patrol objectives. have fun.

(did your father really invent the question mark?)
