Hi Yoram777
Very beautiful mod!
So I have made the version of your mod in 4:3 screen for Departure, with the musical base of "Deutschland über alles". Can I propose it in Subsim with your permission? I have also changed the volume of the music, gramophone and radio.
The lengt of zipped file is 63.984.882 bytes.

Thanks able,
It doesn't look as bad as I expected actually... (I don't own a 4:3 screen anymore so this is the first time I got to see it )
(btw, you might be looking forward to torpedo's work, in the post above )

Thx a lot 4 the mod! Great work! Excuse me for bad knowledge of language.
Recently has looked Das Boot and i was very impressed! As it seems to me, this mod perfectly fits for the menu in SH V.
Can it would be necessary to make sounds of alarm and shouts of crew during immersing on background? Just make them more silent than a musical background that did not irritate.

4:3 version of Das Boot Departure Theme Corrupt

I recently downloaded Torpedo's 4:3 version of Das Boot Departure, but the last 10-15 sec of the video is corrupt (blocky mosaic garbled).
I thought maybe it was a bad download, so I downloaded the 4:3 version again today. Sadly the download now reported a CRC error for the video file, it can't even be opened.

I tried to find a method to convert Yoram's original video file's aspect ratio to better fit widescreen format without everything looking too cramped, but I don't have the necessary tools (nor skill) to do it myself.

I kindly ask you guys, Torpedo or Yoram777, now to make new widescreen aspect conversion (that works until the end). I realize that there might be black ribbons on top and bottom, but that's OK.

I'm sure many others would appreciate such a marvelous main menu background, too.

Grreattt!!

Hello Torpedo!

No errors any longer! Now you got it spot on right!! With that I mean the 4:3 version, which gives the correct aspect ratio on my 1680*1050 widescreen monitor. The black ribbons on top & bottom are correct, too, as they are obscured in the game's main menu screen anyway. That means that ingame nothing is lost from the video. This is exactly what I have been looking for. Mille grazie!

Out of interest: what tool/utility did you use to convert Yoram's original version into this format?

Sidenote: The 4:3 version having the spot on correct aspect ratio for a 16:9 monitor, I think you might consider changing its name, as widescreen monitors definitely are not 4:3 (that was the old crt!). That said, maybe the 2 other versions are unnecessary?

Anyway, thanks again!

Hi ustahl!
Have you tried the 16:9 version? This version should be the right one for your monitor 1680 * 1050. I would not be wrong.
Can you try the 16:9 version?. Or can you make a screen of the version 4:3 that you have downloaded and activated? My monitor is 1280 *1024.

Thanks!!!!

Hi Torpedo,

I tried all three of them, first with RAD Video Tools, then in SH5. Only the 4:3 version looks right in SH5 on my 16:9 monitor, the other two look distorted, squashed horizontally -> everything is too thin. In the 4:3 version they have correct proportions. Your own monitor is 4:3, maybe that causes some confusion? Anyway, here are some screenshots for comparison:

4:3 version:

16:9 version:

What tool/utility did you use to make the 4:3 version?

Default Das Boot Departure Theme

Hi all!
I've made the version that works for 16:9 and 4:3 monitors of "Das Boot Departure Theme" with 7-Zip without CRC errors (I hope ) and without stretched aspect ratio of the movie clip and in one download package only.

And
the audio track with "Deutschland über alles"
the higher volume for Music, radio and gramophone
all languages compatible
JSGME compatible

Thanks ustahl for your very helpful feedback and screens !!

Let me know if the versions are working well. Thanks
Torpedo

Thanks pal, but comparing your latest 4:3 version against the widescreen version I found they are identical, or am I dreaming?

Hi ustahl!!!
I used two tools for version 4:3 Das Boot Departure that are:
- Rad Video Tools
- Virtualdub v. 1.9.10 http://www.virtualdub.org/
in this way:

1) with Rad Video Tools I've converted Back1.bik (with the original wrong aspect ratio) in Back1.avi
2) with Virtualdub I've changed Back1.avi from 720x576 full screen in 720x576 with two black ribbons at top and bottom just to have the picture in 16:9 as in the original movie and I saved it, now with the right aspect ratio.
3) with Rad Video Tools I've converted the elaborated Back1.avi in Back1.bik and I've make the mod.

Virtualdub is a very powerful tool that allows many changes in AVI files.
Surely this is a short description especially for the use of Virtualdub, but these are the steps I did to have the right 4:3 aspect ratio, and fortunately, these steps also work in the 16:9.
And all this is thanks to your help !!!

Greetings from Italy!

Ciao Torpedo,
I thought those were the tools you used. I know RAD Video Tools, but VirtualDub only by name, until now. Will take a look at VD, hope it's not too difficult.

Re. same file set offered as 2 different looking versions: Sorry, but actually that confused me. Why not offer one download package only, stating it is good for widescreen, as that's what most people have nowadays. Better keep it simple.

Off topic: is it Forza Sampdoria or Forza Genova?

Hi ustahl!
I did as you suggested in one version of the "Das Boot Departure Theme". See the post #41
The two earlier versions, which are identical, can create confusion.
Many Many thanks for your cooperation!
Torpedo

P.S. Forza Sampdoria forever!
