Don't really understand (or it was a warship needed?)

Normally when I get this message it does not appear until I am a certain distance from the star. At that point I make a circle around the star and stay within it and never have an issue completing the mission. I have found it to be normally 60 miles unless specifically stated by the mission itself.

If the message pops up at 100 miles then draw it 100 miles if it is 50 miles draw 50. I have never seen it not work. The message is programmed to pop up when you are the correct distance from the star.

I would hazard a guess merc4ulfate, that the tonnage to sink may have been 10,000T of any type. It may have also have been a 5,000T of any type, and the merchant was 4,950 ton. I have had that happen entirely too often. Sneak into the middle of a convoy, get hits on two merchants, and only the little one sinks. Then the escorts hold me down the next few hours and the rest get away... If I think about it again, I might try to add a tonnage figure into a mission objective message somehow, yet not make it too obvious.

btw: Those "Sink" missions, where you are told to proceed to a certain location and standby for further orders, then they tell you to conduct anti-shipping operations, or search and destroy enemy shipping, none of those are area restricted in FotRSU. Once you have arrived at the location and gotten the "Captain authorized autonomy..." message, you can freely roam and hunt... The Patrol missions have to stay within a given area, which should be stated in all of the missions' orders - should be...

Ah ok...didn’t know it could be tonnage related. So that’s why the first one didn’t accomplished the mission, because it was a small one (if i recall well around 2000 tons)

Thanks for clarifying this

Just a thought:

What happened to this unic SH4 feature, calling for air assistance? (Red pencil)
No one SH4 super mod kept it... why?

Wouldn’t it be cool to ask for some aerial reconnaissance in FOTRSU? (only in friendly airfield radius and/or friendly carrier radius)
Or ask for air assistance when too many planes are bombing us? (Again in airfield/carrier radius)
We could see some air epic battles from our periscopes... lol

Didn’t they used air recon in the Pacific immensity?

Dunno if it’s doable in FOTRSU, but perso, i’d Love to see it back

I do not recall ever seeing that modded for the USA boats. It is for the German boats. It would be nice to have some spotting aircraft and yes the United States used air patrols a lot during the Pacific campaign of the 1940's.

That capability was never fully implemented in SH4 by the developers. If they don't leave us a "command" (a "switch" sort of speak) that allows a player to do something......like telling your air partners to attack...….you can't make it happen. This kind of "command" is hard coded. In other words, it's a game engine component that we don't have access to. We can work with what's given, actually change things to the point of making them appear it's a new entity (like having ships fire torpedoes at the players sub; or cause a plane to actually strike the water, on purpose, like the Kamikaze unit does), but these are things that are already in-game......just "modified" to do something else. But, we can't put content into the game that isn't already there.

As far as I know that capability was used for Multiplayer game play. And yes, I think it was a German feature, a leftover from SHIII?

I've often thought of what if we made the single person game actually use the Multiplayer version. Change the Multiplayer game to "appear" as if it's a single player game and then use the aspects that are solely there in the Multiplayer side? OR, I've even wondered if by using the German side.....turning it into the American side, would the benefits be worth the transformation?

I was thinking of that, because in vanilla SH4 UBM it’s working quite well (career mode) and on American side as well...using the red pencil, clicking a zone we want to explore by air, and watch the plane flying all around the zone we asked.

That said, i don’t know how it was coded and if it is recoverable for FOTRSU.

That "scout plane", or direction of "auxiliary forces" such as a CL or other such force, does not seem to be fully implement on the US side of the game. There are no available "assets" as they say... Here is a shot of the German side:

I picked up the black pencil, which is to the left on the German side, selected the airbase there by Soerabaja, Java with it, then clicked on the map, and that is how it "launches" the scout plane. Notice the text box says "New scout sent"? Works great. Now, here is a shot of the US NavMap:

I again selected the left pencil - only in this case, first of all, notice that the pencil colors are reversed? Second of all, there is nothing for me to click on and "call".

I have tried a few "experiments" over the last couple of years, and added the same text file entries on the US side that the German side has, made me some "assets", and thus far, I'm ~really~ good at getting CTDs, but that's been it thus far. Not for lack of trying... I'll keep at it, but I can only try s7rikeback's, CapnScurvy's & Jeff-Grove's patience so many times with these questions I have... - maybe someone has already done this, but I haven't heard about it, else I'd quit trying to do it, and use theirs...

You must have a Pensacola near Pearl. I recall you found something a miss with it? I got a new boat the Balao in 1942. On my mission leaving base it has me outside of San Francisco bay. I have to sail all the way to midway then refuel and sail near Bungo Suido for my mission. My home port was at Midway but upon getting the new boat it switched me to Pearl.

Upon mission completion I have to sail back to Midway to refuel then on to Pearl to dock. Trouble is as soon as I get new Pearl the game crashes. The cussing was loud with this one because my last save is leaving San Francisco.

No way of knowing what caused the crash but I am beginning to suspect a malformed ship type of some sort.

Default Sept 22, 1942 - crash at 2000 hrs

Running a campaign out of Pearl starting Sept 16th 1942, Mission go to Caroline Islands and wait for instructions. When the game gets to Sept 22 at exactly 20:00 it crashes. I have this installed on my laptop and desk top and I get the same result on both PCs running different careers. Im only running FOTRS ultimate .80 RC2 on both - no mod soup. How do I get this fixed?

Love the Mod, Thanks

Getting the Balao early like that is why you end up at San Francisco, since it is the first base with the boat, out of Mare Island Naval Yard. The Balao doesn't end up at Midway until March 1st, 1943. We tried to "open" Pearl to it early also, but the game seems to have something in there for an early Balao "award" always taking the Player to San Fran until early 1943. You may have crashed at Pearl due to a mission assignment date. I'll look into that part of it. When leaving San Fran, I always stop at Midway both directions and fuel. As for the Pensacola and Pensacola II (Late War), the ones in the Campaign were fixed a while back. We had issues with one in a Single Mission that was overlooked and was still sitting as an Late War version, but with an Early War date, so that is changed for the next version. You would find that in a career. What is your renown score leaving San Francisco, and how many ships does your log show sunk?

First things first, because I forget this entirely too often, but "Welcome to SubSim wlaneer!"

Second of all, that is a new one. Do you know if the LAA is set correctly on your SH4.exe file? Just start LAA again, and load the SH4.exe file back into it, and if on the Basic screen, there will be a checkmark already in the little tick box, or if you're on Intermediate or Advanced, then it will have "True" in the "Current" column. Let me also ask you which OS you have, and do you know if it's 32-bit or 64-bit? What is the path to your game install? ie: The game will have a default install path of "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft \Silent Hunter...", which you don't want to use, since Windows "protects" the Program Files from un-authorized alteration...

Renown upon leaving San Francisco is 8785.
Total number of ships sunk recorded in the log is 42.

Did you managed to fine tune the escorts for next update?

Actually (V080 RC2 + Patch 5) they are blind and deaf.
No need to be on silent running, nor low speed submerged close to them...that’s way too easy (and boring)

For test, i picked up the sim file of TMO 2.5 and activated it on top of FOTRSU.
Was expecting « uber » destroyers like in TMO, but to my surprise, they remained same noob
So obviously there are others files to tweak to obtain same TMO results...
It was in the convoy attack training mission (hard)

On side note, i’m Not fan of « uber » destroyers, something more intermediate.
