seriously: why wouldn't the pre-spawn icon have a Convoy label as opposed to a Warship label? the convoy consists of 2 AK, 1 AO, 1 Liner, 2 CL.
You'll only get the one icon initially, until the group does spawn. It was listed as "Warship" due to the fact that there are 2x CL in the group. You might also encounter "Convoys" that might have 2x DD in with the group itself, and if they aren't set to "Escorts=True" (or whatever), then they are part of the "Convoy", and you'll see the preliminary tag of "Warship". That's just a vagary of the game. They really should just use "Group of Unidentified Ships" or something. Watch out for similar when a Seaplane Tender or CVE are part of a "Convoy". In conjunction with a half-dozen escorts, they'll pack a whallop of whoop on your noggin in short order, especially on a clear day with calm seas... Don't hang around PD too long.

Sorry to hear your having problems with SH4. Just out of curiosity what graphics card are you currently using. I'm currently using a Nvidia 1070 GTX (below are the settings I'm currently using).

yes, i agree. this is very inconsistent with previous versions (Stock, TMO, RSRD, etc). if there is more than one ship sailing together it's a convoy (small, medium, large) even if there are escorts, it's still a convoy. the group becomes a task force when the number of warships outnumbers the number of non-warships. my point is that the pre-spawn icon of "a warship" is not consistent with past performance.

From all of the Submarine Patrol Reports I've read thus far for my research into "authentic" PhotoOp and other SpecOps, everyone of them thus far has reports from the commanding officer of "Torpedo tails sighted, turned to comb them" at least once, some multiple times. Here's a small clip from the Spearfish (SS-190) while off Kyushu in the early hours just before dawn on 9 September, 1943 (no initial specific hour mentioned):
"Same general location. Just before time for morning dive sound reported two torpedoes fired at us from 050° relative. Turned toward and dove. Nothing further sighted or heard. The sound man, an experienced 7th patrol operator, later described the noises as a large rush of air followed immediately by high whining noise of varying intensity, followed 10 seconds later by a similar set of noises.

0645(I) = Sighted two Chidori torpedo boats, in line of bearing, conducting echo ranging search on course 110 degrees (T), speed 9 knots. Avoided at periscope depth. They passed right over our morning diving spot on a course definitely not a traffic route...
"
Going by previous times, they were probably about 30 minutes before dawn, visibility poor, so the Chidori at 0645 were probably close by. Sounds like a sub shot at them about 545, withdrew, and then phoned home and called for reinforcements. Every boat seems to have been DF'd at least once, and seen by airplanes every patrol at least once. Unfortunately, every one of them also has at least one story about being fired upon by friendly forces, even after the beginnings of IFF - and even while in "safe" zones...

Default Crew walking on...what?

i torpedoed this merchie sometime in March 1943. as i watched her sink, i could not help but notice these two crew walking on air. WTF!

Parker's Tin Can is also used in the New Construction training missions. It is a Japanese sub chaser, commandeered by the turncoat Ensign Parker... It has probably fallen through the cracks of the "GENERIC Frigate" types... Fix forthcoming with the others! Thanks you good sir! btw, it is an enemy combatant, and it does sink. Do your business...

Those crewmen are probably the new Chinese fellers they hired... acrobatic company, but also illusionists... In actuality, I'll bet that's one of those ships that is two hulls inside of one dat file, and the fellows are associated with the front half of the ship, so as the aft sinks while the bow stays upright, there they are, walking on sunshine!...

PS: your smoke and fire looks more like it's a TMO fire burning... you don't have any other mods in the mix do you?...

Did you catch the name of this ship ? As propbeanie has mentioned, it's linked to the damage model, and perhaps a wrong node placement.

nope.
i don't mess with those type of files. i take the graphics as they some. when i read the other modders adjusting their vid cards for optimum graphics analysis and display i just shake my head and wonder.
