Default Revisit of NYGM Tonnage War

Currently using NYGM Tonnage War again.

The latest updates to it make it a lot of fun.

A previous write up I did on this mod (a subjective opinion http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=227935 ) had some missing knowledge to it because of a basic lack of understanding of things.

For example, some of the things I mentioned as potential bugs were nothing to do with the mod but the well know crash dive problem. Do not interrupt a crash dive. Let it complete and input new orders from there. This is a well known SH3 bug and nothing to do with the mod. If the crash dive is interrupted you will have a lack of stability from then on controlling depth and speed to the point where this can affect your survivability, if escorts come after you.

Some recent observations from a current 1941 patrol with a VIIc.

Survived two different depth chargings with no problem.

Love the environment. Weather and waves are well controlled and a nice variety of weather (very well done on this point).

IABLShipsforNYGM_New_Thomsen ship package is just the right amount of ships that look great.

Challenges: one must read up more before doing the install as there are a lot of exceptions depending on what mods one may be using.

Low resource consumption on your PC. Great as this was part of the goal.

I am happily using NYGM on the following 6 year old PC.

i5, 4Gb RAM, 2TB HD, 27 inch monitor.
Stock game resolution.
Plain vanilla Windows 10 (no crapware on it).
SH3 installed via STEAM. Silent Hunter Front End.

Critical if the high-end PCs you have are occupied doing other things.

There are some minor things that I will do a write up on, however this is an excellent mod capable of giving hours of very fun game play and immersion, (why we are here).

Given all the hoops game modders have to jump through (the inherent limits of the SH3 game) it may be impossible to heap too much praise on this wonderful mod.

NYGM is My favorite. Doesn't bog your radio down like GWX. I especially like that it focuses on the AI.

I've played all the super mods but NYGM is by far my favorite super-mod out there . Some of the reasons i would recommend it :
- challenging AI, you have to show some respect to the AI or you risk sleeping with the fish pretty fast
- very fast loading times compared to the latest super-mods, most of the super-mods have quite some big loading times . NYGM has kept some things to a minimum , there are no super-expanded ports with huge traffic ( while beautiful you dont spend much time in ports anyways), there are no large-scale scripted events ( many times the players will ignore them anyway plus that real-time uboat skippers had no knowledge of such events taking place ) and so on ;

- very stable , no CTD's . In more than a year i only had one CTD and that was due to some experimental mod that was causing everyone to have CTD's , otherwise the game never CTD on me even though i broke all the save rules in order to test its limits ( like saving in the middle of a convoy and so on ) and i also have some 30 mods installed . This is quite an important issue since i had some really nasty and inexplicable CTD's with all the other super-mods .
- it is mod-friendly ,you can make it look better with things like open-hatch, new interior, Ahnenerbe wide GUI and so on .

I'm a GWX fan myself, which is of course all a matter of taste. I just wanted to relate a little story. It is possible to load a different script which kills most of that radio traffic, but who wants to spend time changing things when there's already a mod that does what you want?

The story is this: Over the years we've had several members who had spare time on their hands and decided to do a real-time patrol, never using time compression at all. One player who did that reported that all those radio messages that keep you from using a constant TC and seem to come every five seconds take on a whole new meaning when you're travelling in real time. He said the messages were so few and far-between that he began to feel abandoned, and began to eagerly look forward to each new communication.
