I tried this rez fix and wish I hadn't. It ran ok when starting in port but when I saved the patrol it wouldn't reload,just CTDed. started in port again ok but again when saved the save CTDed, this happened every time. Also I could not run the game faster than x64 if I tried it CTDed. Tried all sorts of cures but none worked in the end I did a complete reinstall but as expected my saved carear did not work so after 14 sucessful patrols I have to start all over again, what I get for trying it on vista 32 I guess.

Default Rogue Fish in 1920x1080 fix

Hi guys,

I'm a noob to this forum stuff so I'll try to relay to you the fix I found in the Subsim forums for this issue. It has completely resolved my problems which were pretty much identical to Maillemaker.

Link: [URL="http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=1517282&postcount=6"]

If I didn't do that right, here's the text:

"Firstly, you need to check your activated mods to see if any contain the following file: menu_1024_768.txt (A windows searcg for this file name should show all locations of this file)

If they do, you need to deactivate and create backup copies.

Depending on whether any mods use it depends on how many times you need to make the following changes:

The following items are from the default menu_1024_768.txt in GWX 3.0 - If the block numbers are different, you can just search for the term "Name=Torp launch".

Find you copies of the menu_1024_768.txt (usually this is C:\Program Files\.....\data\Menu) and right-click and choose Open With - Notepad.

Once the file is open, hit Ctrl+F to bring up the search function and look for these blocks:

When you're happy & done, save the file.

This will make every Torpedo Launch button in the game unclickable, meaning the only way to launch is to use Ctrl+Enter. Let me know if there's any problems".

Many thanks to Danlisa for making this post!

This has completely resolved my issues in GWX3 at 1920x1080. And the torps still fire by mouse click on my system.

I agree with you Maillemaker, SH3 is a beautiful experience at 1920x1080, especially when using my 46" Samsung LED TV as a monitor

Happy Hunting in high res

Any idea? It is a real pity, specially knowing that it should work. I have tried to run it at 1680x1050, 1280x1024, even a custom 1400x1050. No success.

BTW, I test it in SH3+1.4b+GWX3, nothing more

Thanks for any idea!

EDIT: SH3 works perfectly with stqndqrd resolution in my Win7 64, no need for run as admin or compatibility mode. Nevertheless I have tested that witht he HiRes and does not work neither.
I have this exact same problem. If I find a solution I'll let you know.

Google brought me to this thread.

I'm running Win7, 64bit. Has anyone gotten this mod to work? Or should I try another workaround to ramp up my graphics?

With my rig - NVidia 540M - I can use any of the widescreen mods. At 1366x768. But not at high-rez. The only high-res mod that I have gotten to run with my system is Van1920x1080, and it's gives me great performance. I highly recommend it.

Default HiRes fix makes no difference

I talked about this in the Windows 7 thread (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...&postcount=445) but didn't get a reply, so I thought I'd put it in a thread more to do with this particular subject.

Anything I try seems to make no difference, I just get 1024x768. I'm running Windows 7 64Bit with SH3 from Steam (1.4b) with SH3 Commander and 2 Mods (4GB and HiResFix). My monitor is 1600x1200 with a ATI Radeon 4850 card, so I don't even need Widescreen, just HiRes. I've tried everything I can think of, apart from doing a clean install of SH3(though I could try that, assuming I don't lose my Career?).

Can anyone who has used the HiRes fix successfully please tell me what they did?

Thanks...

J.

Ok, I've actually figured out how to save my career and reload it if needed, so I did a uninstall and reinstall, and still no luck, I can't get anything other than 1024x768.

Only difference from my previous posts is I realised that I got the game from Gamersgate, not Steam.

Any ideas or suggestions at all? Do any of the supermods (GWX or NYGM) give HiRes as well?

Thanks...

Jason.

Default SH3_XPSP2_Res_Fix_for_1.4b

Hello Jasonb,

I eventually found a satisfactory solution for using the "SH3_XPSP2_Res_Fix_for_1.4b" with SH3.
Before starting SH3 Commander, I change my screen res to 1024*768, and then when SH3 gets to the Main Menu screen, I change my screen res to 1600*1200 and the game plays perfectly well.

My OS is W7.
Graphics are AMD Radeon HD 6570
The mods I use are:
GWX3
GWX - Captain America's Officer Icons
GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects
GWX - Integrated Orders
GWX - No Medals on Crew
LifeBoats&Debris_v4

I eventually found this solution worked for me after a lot of trial and error.
It works for me even without changing the screen res figures in the relevant cfg files mentioned in the various threads relating to this problem.
It is a bit of a pain, having to change the screen res twice, before playing the game, but that's a very small price to pay for what is a very immersive game.
I can only re-iterate, keep trying, keep looking on these excellent forums, where there is a lot of expertise, because SH3 combined with GWX3 is an awesome game, even after almost a decade.

Thanks for your reply U-15. I tried this (set to 1024x768, run the game, then set to 1600x1200) but still no joy, the game still runs in 1024x768.

Just a couple of quick questions...

1. Is it noticeable immediately (i.e. in the main menu screen) if it's higher than 1024x768, or do you have to run a mission before you see the higher resolution?

2. Are you running the game in full screen or windowed mode?

3. Are you running the executable in Windows XP compatability mode?

4. How do you get from the Main Screen back to Windows to change the Resolution, do you just use Alt-Tab?

Thanks...

Hello Jasonb,

Sorry about the delay in replying, but whilst on shore leave my base commander (the wife) had urgent missions for me to attend to.

Before I answer your questions, can I just clarify a point I made in my first post relating to this problem.
I do change the screen resolution figures in the d3d9.cfg file which is part of the "SH3_XPSP2_Res_Fix_for_1.4b" package, but I do not alter any other .cfg files.
I apologise if I have mislead you in any way.
This is how my d3d9.cfg file looks:

-----
DX9res Settings
; by Kegetys <kegetys@dnainternet.net>
;
; Note that this config is reloaded on device reset, so you can task switch out
; of the game, change settings from this file and then return
;
[config]
; ResX: Horizontal resolution setting
; ResY: Vertical resolution setting
; useFiltering: Use linear filtering for UI elements
; enableScreenshots: Hook printscreen keypress to save TGA screenshot
resX=1600
resY=1200
useFiltering=1
enableScreenshots=1
screenshotPath=.
[gamma]
; setGamma: Override gamma ramp
; gammaRed: Red channel gamma (1.0 = normal, decrease to add brightess, increase to darken)
; gammaGreen: Green channel gamma (1.0 = normal, decrease to add brightess, increase to darken)
; gammaBlue: Blue channel gamma (1.0 = normal, decrease to add brightess, increase to darken)
setGamma=0
gammaRed=1.0
gammaGreen=1.0
gammaBlue=1.0

-----
The amended screen res figures are in yellow.

Anyway in answer to your questions:

1. The change in resolution from 1024*768 to 1600*1200 happens immediately on selecting the larger size resolution.
I notice it straight away at the Main Menu screen before I have selected my career

2. Windowed mode.
I haven't tried this in full-screen mode

3. I haven't selected compatibility mode for SH3 Commander or SH3 itself

4. When I want to change the screen resolution, I left click the rectangular peek button on the right hand side of the taskbar, it says "Show desktop" when you hover the mouse over it.
Note my operating system is Windows7, I don't think XP or earlier had this function

In summarising Jason, I went through a lot of trial and error before this worked for me.
I searched and trawled through these forums on Subsim, Google etc.
I tried nearly all of the solutions that others had found worked for them, but to no avail in my case.

There was an instance when I thought I'd got the proper solution for it to work straight away at 1600*1200 without having to first select 1024*768, but that only worked when starting off with SH3 directly. As soon as I started using SH3 Commander to load the game, it defaulted to 1024*768.

I just happened to stumble on this solution as I was doing a fresh install of SH3, SH3 Commander etc.
To ensure it worked permanently, I did a fresh re-install straight away, documenting what I did as I did it.

I hope you do manage to find a solution, because 1024*768 on a 22 inch monitor is not very nice at all.

Let us all know how you get on, because you may find a solution that nobody else has tried yet, or you may find a solution working for you that others couldn't get to work for them.

All the best
U-15.

Thanks for your reply U-15, I appreciate it.

I only ever play the game in full-screen mode, so I thought after reading your post that going to Windowed mode might make a difference.

I followed your instructions, changing the resolution in the .cfg file that comes with the patch, and then changing the screen resolution to 1024x768. Then I ran SH3 Commander and launched SH3. In windowed mode it only takes up approx. 50% of my screen, maybe less.

I then went to the desktop and changed the resolution back to 1600x1200. Back in SH3, the windowed mode now takes up the full screen. Is that what you get too?

However, I don't know if it's actually 1600x1200 or just the monitor displaying 1024x768 full screen (if that makes sense). For example, if I play the game in 1024x768 in full screen mode, without any HiRes patches, it looks the exact same as the windowed mode after changing to 1600x1200 following your instructions.

I guess what I'm saying is I don't know what the game should look like in 1600x1200, even in the main menu, so I've no idea how to do whether I have it right or not, or whether I just have 1024x768 taking up the full screen. Could you possibly take a screenshot of your main menu in HiRes and post it, so I can compare?

Thanks again...

J.

Ok, I've been looking into this a lot, and I've a general, hopefully simple, question about this HiRes Mod.

Basically, what's it supposed to do? I run stock SH3 in Full Screen on my 1600x1200 monitor, and a screenshot shows it runs in 1024x768.

So, is the HiRes Mod meant to run the game in 1600x1200 full screen with better, sharper graphics? Or is it just to allow you to run it in Windowed mode higher than 1024x768?

Does anyone have any before/after screenshots to show the difference between running HiRes and not?

Thanks...
