Default New Career, New Supermod

Ahoy shipmates after many many years playing the GWX mod I am now ready to begin a new career with a new mod.

What would be peoples best recommendations be out of the other supermods out there?

My solid favorite is NYGM, I personally feel it is the most realistic (as far as a game can get)...WAC a close second.

WAC is beautiful and with lot of action. Best looking submarines ever in SH3.
Not that easy on 100% realism, ships are strong to sink (need more than 1 torp) and with H.sie full patched it’s an interesting experience.
There are additional mods to get snow in winter, and destroyed harbors for late war. Nice touch

NYGM is very interesting too, even though submarines doesn’t match WAC’s ones.
But you can always download and install the German U-Boat Compilation 2 to raise the flag at WAC’s looking!
Stock NYGM submarines are still better than GWX stock ones.
NYGM has the best submarine behavior to me. Not easy to keep an attack at periscope depth without speed...but 1 knot is enough to not slowly sink
100% realism and fully patched with H.sie is a great experience too!
NYGM might be closer to reality as you don’t cross ships every day (as SH5 TWOS BTW)
Harbors are a bit empty, even with the Harbor Traffic add on...not that much to see. But that’s ok, NYGM is more focused on convoys attacks.

Best is to install both, and see what is your preference

Fifi,
you are a bad influence! Now I am going to have to try the U boat compilation with NYGM. I do agree with you on the harbors in NYGM...they feel dead. Going to look around and see if there is a mod I missed to liven it up.

NYGM has a harbor traffic mod that comes with it. Not as great as others but helps.

I have that enabled...but as you say it does not really add much. It is not a game breaker, but I got spoiled with WAC's harbors...they really feel alive.

In retrospect, you don’t spend a lot of time in harbor, and I love NYGM immersion. Makes for a serious game.

Ahoy Sailors!

I've recently revived my Uboot-career so I've been lurking around to see what ~7 years has done in terms of mods to the game. I did not like SH4 or SH5 so I have my feet firmly planted in the SH3 universe.

WAC 5.01 looks beautiful and I've done half a patrol with it installed but it crashes whenever I try to reload the save. That's OK and I'm too old to bother with tweaking around, so I'll just ask a similar question to the OP instead, but I'm not actually looking for an extensive super mod.

Are there any "true to vanilla" visual upgrades and "must have bug fixes" that I should be aware of?

As I've said, I've been lurking around looking for mods but there are so many that I'm thoroughly confused.

EDIT: I actually bought SH5 on steam and decided to try the Wolves of Steel community expansion. Maybe I'll hate it, maybe not. I never really gave SH5 a chance with the draconian DRM and awful release week they had.

EDIT2: j-zuz I'd forgotten the whole UPlay shenanigans of Ubisoft...

Thanks for the feedback guys, so far I've tried LSH3 & WAC 5.1.

I enjoyed LSH3 however I had various issues with adding additional mods such as "Ahnenerbe WideGui 1920 x 1080 Final" this caused some problems with transferring flotilla's plus a few other issues, I also found the reactions of enemy escorts to be a little lazy at times whilst attacking convoys.

WAC 5.1 is definitely the "Eye Candy King" of the Supermods but again I found a couple of issues with this mod such as the WO yelling every 2 minutes and compatability with additional mods, but again this is down to personal preference, I know the guys who developed both these mods are extremely talented individuals who bring this game to life.

I am yet to try NYGM, for the meantime I have returned to GWX adding various other mods to my soup.

I thought the crew sound in WAC5.1 was a bit intrusive but I could probably tinker back the original sounds. I did enjoy the visuals a lot though.

Is there a simple guide how to just steal the visuals from this mod and leave gameplay untouched?

EDIT: SH5 looked nice but it wasn't SH3. I should've trusted my gut feeling. It was SH3 I urged for and only SH3 can scratch that itch.
