Default op munson issue with new boat

hello,

who is a good resource for ops munson? i am trying out the german side of SH4 and have run into a couple of issues...the largest of which is that my special abilities crewmen seem to have lost their special ability at the time when my boat was upgraded from a Type IIb to a IIc. no other changes.

I'm not sure there are any experts on Op Monsun around. This could be a tough one to solve.

yeah, i am starting to understand that....due to the underwhelming responses this post has drawn.

thanks for your reply.

i have played the pacific side of SH4 1.5 for a steady 2+years...with all of the major mods...and i have made some experiments myself but i have never seen the environment change so dramatically just experiencing a nominal sub upgrade....which happened in a normal and natural manner.

it has to be be something really simple. like stupid-simple....such as not being able to see a tree in the forest.

You'd be surprised what a bad date here or there does to a ship's cfg... We've been finding stuff in FotRS Ultimate on probably a weekly basis. Look what CapnScurvy found in our thread just the other day with the "Stock" mistake of November 31 still being on the game's "calendar". Stupid simple, but when you're talking about thousands of files, "needle in the haystack" might be a more apt description, especially when you're talking about date relations between several files, being dependent upon each other... - I haven't played it in quite a while (OM, that is), but I remember a discussion of this years ago, so go through some of the old threads. I do not remember any resolution. Of course, we are talking about a bunch of plaque in an old brain here...

i found another unexpected feature that you may enjoy reading about...

so, after my previous email about the Type 2 issues, i pushed ahead and started a career with a Type VII. After a couple of missions, my stern torpedo reserve jumps capacity by seven! WTF. ok, so i'll take the extra ammo but how, why, what, when, etc? so i took a look at the activeuserplayerunits.upc and found that the seven extras are in Bunker 3 with my decoys. no idea how they got there.

it is one of the mysteries of life!

I've played Op Monsun several times, but I've always stayed away from the Special Abilities as I find them highly unrealistic.

Default A source for information...

If you're still looking for some ideas, I stumbled across a thread that has some good information concerning configuration files, Special Abilities, etc.

In the SH4: Wolves of the Pacific forum, at the bottom of the last page of threads (pg 3), there is a discussion on resetting the most economical speed of the boat. A couple of posts there from aanker discuss helpful changes to the .cfg files and to the Special Abilities files.

Even though you're concerned with OM problems, it's the same basic game engine as SH4 and the discussion/explanations there might help to point you in the right direction for examining some of those little nuisance issues and figuring out ways to fix them to your satisfaction. Good luck.
