Walmart plans to test Tesla's electric tractor trailers and has already ordered five of them, the retailer told CNBC on Friday.

"We have a long history of testing new technology – including alternative-fuel trucks – and we are excited to be among the first to pilot this new heavy-duty electric vehicle," the company said in a statement to CNBC.

Now if Walmart can just keep them from falling asleep at the wheel ...

Uber’s self-driving trucks are making deliveries in Arizona

Uber announced today that its self-driving trucks have been operating in Arizona for the last couple of months. The company said it has two main transfer hubs in Sanders and Topock, but other than that, Uber is being pretty tight-lipped about the operation. For instance, it hasn't shared how many trucks are in use, how many miles they've driven, what they're shipping or how often drivers have to take over for the autonomous system, and has only said that the trucks have completed thousands of rides to date.

After our last Volvo, I'm firmly convinced that unless you're an old school diesel mechanic, it's best to (if at all possible) buy new with a "real" warranty. Diesels were great, until people started trying to clean them up.

April 26 (UPI) -- Ford Motor Co. will cut out all but two of its passenger cars for its North American lineup due to waning demand for the vehicles, the company said.

The motor gamut of trucks, sport-utility vehicles and crossovers will remain -- but Ford's Fiesta, Taurus, Fusion and regular Focus models will disappear within the next two years.

The automaker said by 2020, almost 90 percent of the Ford portfolio will comprise of trucks, SUVs and crossovers and commercial vehicles.

The only two cars that will stay in Ford's North America market -- the Mustang and Focus Active, a hatchback that will debut next year.

Anheuser-Busch, which ordered 40 electric semi trucks from Tesla last December, on Thursday upped its bet on a green fleet by placing a substantially larger order with a competitor.

The beer company said it plans to buy as many as 800 trucks from Nikola Motor Co. Where Tesla uses batteries in its powertrain technology, Phoenix-based Nikola uses hydrogen fuel cells. In both cases, the vehicles generate no tailpipe pollutants.

I was out on the interstate today and noticed several semi's with large black plastic looking disks mounted on their driver wheels. I assume they are there to make the truck more fuel efficient by reducing drag?
