Extreme heavy fog, located & intercepted escorted convoy 0A.204. Slipped past the escort screen through cover of night & began surfaced attack, sinking 4 merchant vessels with 3 torpedoes & deck gun strafing runs.

Dove after coming under fire from approaching escort(s). Pressure hull suffering minor damage.

Unable to surface to escape, as sonar tracked no less than 5 escorts , commenced simultaneous depth charge runs. Bow suffering critical damage. Outer torpedo doors unresponsive.

constant depth, speed & course changes, using intermittent silent runs, finally lost visual contact approximately 6am, although sonar contact remained. Unable to send updated contact reports after the battle.

successful return to base. Awarded Knight's Cross & welcome fit for the furor himself. The ladies smelled much better then crew.
