Once you get your head around that statement, you'll understand how I feel about HAWX.

At least with Ace Combat, a f-117 would handle differently from an f-15. With HAWX it's all the same.
Umm.. how can ANYTHING be more arcade than Ace Combat? I havent played the few newest ones' but I did play the older ones and the only difference between the planes were hoe much damage your missiles and guns do. Sure, there was the stability etc. stuff, but it was all the same even if one play had -600 stability and the other +99999999, it was 100% the same.

HAWX, I have mixed feelings about it. I've heard alot of good about it, and heck, pretty much every review gives it ok or good rating (not counting the ones who run and scream how it isnt realistic. WELL IT NEVER WAS SUPPOSED TO BE YOU TITS!)

Prolly going to get this one later on, like Battlefield Heroes showed me today: an arcade game can be great fun.

That's the whole point. :rotfl:

It really is. Like that "evasion" mode (turn of assists): view pops to chase cam and the plane magically becomes ultra maneuvrable. Don't ask me how, and I know the aim is not realism, but they made an arcade version of Ace.

Crimson Skies works on my XP machine...a couple of crashes but still works.

I loved that game.

HAWX is a good game, if you accept it for what it is.

A console designed arcade game primarily geared towards MP. In that it plays very well. True, the AI in the SP is lame, the views are hard to get used to when playing with the external on but lock yourself to a cockpit only and it's a whole different game.

However, Hawx is the first step towards a combined warfare universe that's currently in development from UBI/Tom Clancy. Land, Air and Sea warfare based individual games being played together in a MMO. Imagine that, 256 online players per server, either on foot, vehicle, ship or aircraft.

It doesn't work with newer video cards unless you run it in ugly software graphics mode, which is a shame, because the game is awesome

I wish somebody would come up with a fix for that somewhen...

Well, I decided to risk it and bought the game and what ya know, it's great fun! Kinda obvious it's gotten it's influence from Ace Combat as it's pretty much 100% clone of it. You fight back ridiculous amounts of ground and air units, you can carry tons of missiles and bombs, you rank up and you get new planes and weapons systems. Oh and you remember how Ace Combat had those old(ish) planes in it? Like F4 Phantom, Mig21 Fishbed, A6 intruder etc. etc. well so does HAWX.

And like most Ubi's games, it looks good and runs perfectly smooth! Especially the terrain looks very nice as it's all made out of satellite images (AFAIK).

Right, back to the skies!

EDIT: Ow and it also has replay option ála Ace Combat.

Yeah but Hawx's replay option is inferior to AC. And by inferior I mean really inferior. Its like the last 2 or 3 minutes of the mission you just flew. At least AC lets you view the whole thing.

Still I enjoyed Hawx, a friend of mine got me hooked on it at a LAN I went to not all that long ago. Now if only Ubi had've made exp gains from shooting down fighters higher I'd be set. Want my Su-35 and 37 now, not at ranks in the 30s which I'll never reach because I refuse to play online (Xbox live that is, I bought the 360 version)
