Though I never knew of him and I could not find any information about his Naval Awards, what I was able to learn about him was that he was an amazing person that always seemed to step and do something, not just talk about it.

These are traits that most impress me in anyone that has been blessed with this trait, as it is a rare gift, and he seemed to have had it.

It is sad that he is gone but, it's much better that he will be remembered for all he had given during his time with us.

May he Rest In Peace.

My condolences to the Alford family. I regret that I never had a chance to get to know such a consummate and dedicated submariner.

Default Praise to all the Military men and women

This is katie - his baby daughter. As a prior military woman I just want to say the heartfelt warmth I feel from all the praise and words of kindness Dad's fellow Military people have expressed here. Many a tear has been dropping on my desk as I have read your words. Dad taught me so much about being a patriotic person and how much the Navy meant to him. Back in the old days we used to always go on his Subs and eat dinner and flirt with all the sailors and they seemed to love it with Capt Zeb's 4 daughter's would come aboard.
Neal - you seem to be a wonderful friend of Dads and Wulfman - thank-you for your works

A great example of what made our Navy the finest in the world- it wasn't the machines, it was the men.

Always it is very a pity, when the person dies. It is twice a pity, when the good person dies. So let the Earth to it will be down.

Capt Alford, you Sir, are now on Eternal Patrol. God has given you command to watch over us all here still bound to this earth.
I had read that you had been assigned to 3 different Fleet Boats, but only the USS Cavalla is listed. Having served with honor on the USS Segundo, I can still recall my Captains. I'm sure that you were one of the Finest Officers the US Navy ever had. A man just does not say he's going to be a Submariner. It has to be in his blood and he has to show he is Qualified. Not only were you Qualified in Submarines, you were Qualified to Command Submarines. There are very few men that have that distinction bestowed upon them in their lifetime.
You Sir are a true American Hero, one we would not have hesitated to go to sea with. You could lead and we would follow, in doing our duty to God and Country.
By all written accounts you have brought your wife and daughters up in the naval tradition. Of understanding your dedication and duty to them and your Country. You brought to them love and guidance be at sea or home.

You Sir will not be forgotten, and many of the stories you told will be repeated over and over to your grandchildren, to friends, and to new friends that you will be introduced to through those stories........Rest In Peace Captain until the day our courses shall meet.....
