Default So how good is U Boat Missions?

Hi everyone!

I have been playing SH3 with GWX for a while now... and now I'm thinking of trying SH4 again. However the first time I tired it I didn't like it that much.... I dunno I just don't like playing the american subs, and somehow the whole game just didn't feel right.

So I thought I'd give the U boat missions add-on a go. Can I start playing it straight away, or would it be better to play standard SH4 first?
I.e I don't want to miss out on any important story elements that might be interconnected between SH4 and U Boat missions. Also how is the patch situation... is U Boat missions stable and relatively bug free?

cheers!

Ok sinse i have downloaded the u boat missions i will be so free to answer your questions .

Yes the German subs give you a whole different feeling and once you play with them i get the feeling i don't want to play with the US subs again.

I use the Spax sound mod with some changes like in the Thomsons sound mod. I.e. i removed the Yahoowl Herr Kallouin, edited sound sounds of the tubes firing (mixed them) and so on.

But now more about the game. I'm just starting to play and i had a problom with the TDC. You know the PK with the US subs ? .. well you don't have the visual picture of how your sub is against the target.
So you wil have to get familiar with this.

Why should you wait with playing the game? Yes i think you should first train for a couple of days with the US ones but then you're reading to go .

If you have some more questions feel free to ask.

Hi thanks for the answer!

Is the manual targeting in U.Boat Missions similar to SH3 or OLC GUI?

And does U-Boat Missions have a dynamic career mode were I can play an entire carreer in the Pacific with a German U-Boat?

I think you will like it. I got burned out on SH4 and this gave it new life. Yes there are dynamic campaigns. You get to choose a few ports, all that have various missions. There are some surprizes in it, so I will not spoil your fun here. definitely fun, Ubisoft did good on this one, and I have had no "bugs". The only draw back is that my crew does not speak german????

I play UBM with TMO, RSRD, OM, PE, and various soundmods.

I must say, it cracked me up. The "Operation Paukenschlag" is very awesome, the sounds feels like getting a orgasm and when you are attacked by destroyers with "wabos" after firing some fishes, you'll probably know how hard the work was on these days.

I like it, and in my opinion it rocks more than SH3 when mod's are installed.

You should try the RFB mod that is sticky'ed on top of the SH4 mod workshop

They have new sounds and a little bit different gameplay . I like it only i will delete the sounds except a couple .

I won't use RFB only for the sounds. Were too lazy to install through JSGME and too lazy too to reinstall the game.
I don't know what's the difference of these two mods as the modders don't write something like this: file xyz does change abc...

You have to reinstall the game ? Not in my case.
RFB worked fine untill i started editing it. Now it keeps crashing when my mission is loading, i'm working on the problem.

If you are keep beeing lazy then you will end up on street because you were to lazy to work for you money :p Just use your finger to click on download button and some further clicking. And if you don't know the difference then stop being so lazy so you actually read the tread where the mod is posted

Hi guys!

Just another quick question... how good is the enemy AI in SH4 and UBM in general?

In stock SH3 for example the enemy destroyers are a little weak, but this is greatly fixed by the GWX mod for example.

I didn't noticed any changes, just as anoying - stupid - sitting ducks as usual. :p Just buy it, you won't be disapointed. I like the crazy germans.
I can't care about the world war, it's all over. As long as it is cool and it's just a game. Playing with the germans gives you the war feeling. Playing with the US subs didn't gave me such a YEAAAA feeling when sending a ship to the bottom with a salvo of torpedoes manual set in the conning tower.

With the US subs you have to do set the torpedo settings in the periscope view, with the german subs you can do it seen from the inside from the conning tower. Except depth i think.

When you see how the britains are working, you'll be wondering, why the germans lost the war.:p

Got a convoy contact and tried to attack. Send a contact Message and got back "Destroy the escorts". mh...ok. As they heard me (they MUST have heart me, 'cause my well traineed sonarman said, that the escort captain farted) 1 of them stopped immediately while 2 others speeded up and turn into my direction. Well, shot the standing one and got deep. After the charges emergency blow to periscope depth, came a bit surfaced, but got down again very quick. That was too much for the guys: all stopped while the freighters were moving away.

On the other hand: with light fog you get sight contacts in a range of some kilometers where I can't see the enemy. But they see me...

No I tried some mods from another site and had immense problems. But I may try some that are offered here.
