Default GWX IXD/2 sub. Listed as 23,000 km range but out of fuel by Scotland?

Just got my new shiny IXD/2 Sub and am out of fuel so quickly. I can get to Gibraltar and back on slow speed.

It is listed as 23,000km range so any ideas?

I tried a search but found lots of posts that did not answer this.

Thanks.

Wikipedia lists the range of the Typ IX as 19,400 km (10,500 NM) at 10 knots. It is customary to specify range at a given speed (usually optimum cruising speed). This is how range is defined in the ship's procurement specs.

The range at full or flank speed will usually be much less, possibly 1/2 or less.

The boat has an operating range of about 20,000 km. And it is capable of 19 kts. But it won't go 20,000 km at 19 kts. (In fact, the R/L boats probably couldn't run at 19 kts indefinitely without experiencing an engine failure.)

Think of it like automobiles: You will never get the stated fuel economy at full throttle.

Did not explain myself properly.

In my IXD I could go to New York and back.

In my IXD/2 I can go 10% of the distance.

I think I am chasing a bug.

Do you use the "Report range at current speed" function to monitor your range? Does it reflect the reduced range?

What mods do you have active?

Did you literally run out of fuel? Did you get warnings from the crew? Did the gauge drop to zero? And did the gauge go down in linear fashsion or drop suddenly to zero?

The first time I was ten min into the game and heard "Diesel fuel at 50%"
I assumed I'd been damaged and missed it and lost a fuel tank.

Went back to base started the next patrol and watched the gauge smoothly and QUICKLY drop as I sailed along.

I am to tired to figure it out now. Will try again tomorrow.

Cheers.

Good idea but not two missions in a row. Not with the predictable observed fuel usage.

I also occasionally find the 5 key stops the engines rather than going to flank speed. Pressing C for crash dive also stops the engines.
This is an intermittent bug not all the time.

Perhaps a reinstall is in order.

Probably the quickest fix. Might want to redownload GWX, just to be on the safe side.

Good luck. Please post if the problem continues.

If that's your only problem, try choosing Unlimited Fuel from the Realism options.

See if that fixes the problem before you go through a cleansing and full re-install.

Are you absolutely sure about that? I mean, it could be improbable but definetly not impossible to be plagued by malfunctions and/or sabotages twice in a row...
In which year of the war are you currently in?

I too on occasion have noticed that I get only half the normal speed I expect. When this happens and I go to Flank (which I seldom do) instead goes to All Stop.

I have only noticed this occasional issue (twice now) since installing Hsie's V16B1 mod, which does include a Diesel Damage Model. Not using the optional Diesel Damage Model yet, but it is there as part of V16B1 -- just saying.

When this happens, it is noticeable immediate. That is, if I have just loaded a saved game that was functioning normally, I will notice immediately that I am getting only half the speed I expect when the issue is present. For example, on the surface at slow with a IXB, I would expect about 4 knots -- but only get 2 knots. Ordering Flank on the Engine Order Telegraph (EOT) and the EOT goes to All Stop.

SOLUTION: When this happens, I completely exit SH3 (don't save) and restart the game and reload last save -- the problem goes away.
