I was really surprised by the modern architecture of some of the buildings. The pictures of the marching columns were also pretty impressive. No cover from the heat and airstrikes. Just flat terrain.
The photos from the citylife were pretty saddening. So much destruction and suffering.

Are you referring to the Square? IIRC it was built in the 1920s, so it would have been relatively modern by the time of WWII

Also, the city went through 4 major battles during the war, I would expect any city that went through as much to be rather destroyed...

For some reason the link kills my internet connection. All three times I tried I end up resetting the cable modem.
