Default Billy Graham: Influential US evangelist dies at 99

Quote:
US evangelist Billy Graham - one of the most influential preachers of the 20th Century - has died aged 99.

Graham became one of the best-known promoters of Christianity, beginning his worldwide mission in large arenas in London in 1954.

He died at his home in Montreat, North Carolina, a spokesman for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association said.

In a 60-year career, he is estimated to have preached to hundreds of millions of people.

Graham reached millions of them through TV - the first to use the medium to convey the Christian message on that scale.

RIP Sir

Mr Graham, who had suffered from prostate cancer, pneumonia and symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, died at his home in North Carolina.

Quote:
Born in 1918, Graham devoted his life to preaching the word of God after a revival meeting he attended at the age of 15. He was ordained as a Southern Baptist clergyman in 1939, and retired in 2005. At the time he said: “Do I fear death? No. I look forward to death with great anticipation. I’m looking forward to seeing God face to face.
Forever starts when you believe ... RIP Mr Graham

Billy Graham was about the only televangelist I had any respect for; his ministry never seemed to be a solely money churning, self-serving, and self-aggrandizing machine like almost all of the other preachers; he seemed to be very genuine in his ministry and lived as he spoke, a mean feat in the tele-religious world; the only quibble with him I ever had was when a Nixon tape was released with Nixon and Graham together in the Oval Office and Nixon started making some rather anti-Semitic comments right in front of Graham; I kind of wish Graham had spoken up and said something to Nixon, but I prefer to think Graham didn't share Nixon's ideas and Graham remained silent out of respect for the President. Other than that, I can't really think of anything at all untoward about the man...

I'm not religious myself, but I do respect the genuine beliefs of others and I very much respected Billy Graham; he will be missed...

RIP, Rev...
