Just heard this sad news in an email from Neal. I've been busy with other things of late but had to get in and say my condolences to his family.

Sir, you are now gone but will never be forgotten by friends and family. I thank you for your service to this country in helping to keep us free.

R.I.P. Captain Alford and may God bless you sir on your new journey to Valhalla.

I sincerely wish I had known Captain Alford. Men of honor and patriotism seem to be a vanishing breed these days. He obviously had the respect of his peers and his family, which is indicative of his good character.

I wish I could have thanked him for his service to our country. I am cognizant of the fact that my two young daughters can sleep safely in their beds because of brave men and women who dedicate their lives to preserving our freedom and independence. There is no peace without adequate defense.

Death takes so much from us. The only thing it gives in return is an appreciation for life. Thank you, Neal, for bringing this fine man to our attention. The world is a little darker with his passing, but we can keep the flame alive through honored remembrance.

Condolences to family and friends. I never met him, but he clearly made a big impression on those around him.

It is with heavy heart that I say:

"Time passes, seasons change,
history is written but you shall sustain,
the breath of time shan't forget,
your dutiful service to god and to sea.

I never knew you in flesh tis true,
yet we share a bond of life and dream,
Your valor shall remain and your memory too,
now go dear soul, for glory and peace.

Godspeed dear friend of the water,
for like the ancient mariner of days past,
be ever relieved and take thy rest,
you have sited land and are free at last".

Dedicated to Capt. Zeb Alford

Capt. Zeb is celebrating with a multitude of friends he has not seen in many long years... he is in good hands.

Rest in peace Captain Zeb Alford.

Default Farewell shipmate

I'm proud to say I served in the same branch of the U.S. military as Captain Alford, though I never met him. God rest this hero's soul.

Default You will be missed, sir.

Thank you for your service to the United States. My work puts me out at sea frequently and I will count you among the angels who watch over me.
