Default Saving during a patrol in Silent Hunter 1?

How do you save while you're on patrol? I searched the manual and hit all the keys I could think of, but I still can't figure out how to do this.

Thanks

It's been a while, but I don't think there is a way. You can only save between patrols.

Which version do you have? If you are all patched up to the correct version or have SHCE, then "ALT-O" should open the Game Options menu.

At the bottom of that is a box marked "Save Career". Click that box to save the game. It should work if you are in combat, but it will never work if you are in visual contact with the Japanese ships.
