Founder's Better Half. Bourbon barrel aged. Definitely the better half!

The second of the ASDA ales. Pours a clear dark amber, with a very thin head. Aroma is mild, can’t smell anything other than a bit of sweet malt. Taste is similar, watery and metallic and with a bit of earthy hop character. Didn’t enjoy this one so much and have certainly had better.

Of the numerous beers I have sampled, my top choice will always be any of the stouts. Followed by porters, IPA and ale. Of the stouts, I do enjoy the those aged in bourbon oak barrels. Very strong, sometimes boozy but with an enjoyable after taste of bourbon.

Last nights sample coming in at 11% ABV. Fine bourbon flavor, a bit boozy. Definitely will get you where you want to go.

Next up was this little beauty. Made exclusively for the Asda supermarket chain. "In honour of the boxer Gentleman Jack"
Sweet fruity/floral aroma. Deep bitter bronze colour nice steady tight head. Taste sweet malt nutty with fruity and lingering bitterness. Classic Shepherd Neame style. Very nice.

Tried the last of the ASDA ales last night and was pleasantly surprised.

Quote:
Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, chocolate and dried fruit. Moderate sweetness, medium roasted bitterness. Medium body, oily and watery texture, soft carbonation.

Bit late to the party, but anemia and insomnia will do that... Anyhow, this was right prior to Halloween. Not my usual budget, erm I mean fare, but I couldn't pass up a 2017 for $26...

I'm more partial to these guys right here:

I didn't want to start a separate thread due to most of the people that drink beer and hard liquor live in the countries with less sunlight anyway

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-46253943

Quote:
People who live in cold climates with less sunlight could be more likely to drink heavily, according to a study.

US research has established a possible link between average temperature, hours of sunlight and alcohol consumption.

Data from 193 countries provided evidence climate contributed to a higher incidence of binge drinking and liver disease.

A Scottish doctor is now calling for restrictions in alcohol advertising during winter months.

I'd say I drink no more in the winter months than in the summer, but then I am what I'd call a sensible, recreational drinker... 2 or 3 pints of something special at the weekend and a very occasional purchase of a bottle of rum or a special whisky. This isn't a thread for boozers, but that is an interesting article nonetheless

Surprisingly I see many beers at my local stores from around the globe. In fact, a Total Wine store near me had two aisles dedicated to beers from other countries. I can make my own six pack of different beers. Great store!
